Large pdf files

I have a number of pdf files that I want to make available as ebooks for our customer base. I am currently using the adobe reader to look at the files. What are the best practices and format for large files on a mobile device. Currently there is a noticeable lag going from page to page in the books I have. A lot of them are very busy with drawings and other graphics. Would another format lend itself more to what I am trying to accomplish? Your comments appreciated. Anthony

Hi Anthony, One option would be to convert the PDF files to HTML, and then maybe break them up into chapters. You could then have a table of contents screen that links to the individual chapters, but also allows navigation back to the main menu. PDFs are nice, but sometimes I find them hard to navigate, and, for Android, they also require an external PDF viewer. HTML files can be crafted using some good CSS to present natively and nicely on most devices. Mark

If you hosted these PDFs on a fast server, then yes there may be a slight lag, but the lag would be because of the user's connection. But if you host with dropbox, you're bound to find extremely slow speeds.

One would think that will all of the content for mobile devices there would be an efficient medium that lent itself to large files that might contain links... but if not today then someone will develop something tomorrow. I will look into the css suggestion for now. Thanks Anthony

If you are willing to do some manual work, consider breaking up the PDF file into chapters. Then create a Menu that lists all those chapters. You can stitch together all the chapters by placing a Next button in the upper-right corner. Download the made-with-BT Think Hopkins app, take the Tour, you will immediately understand. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/think-hopkins-minnesota/id554549991?mt=8 The smaller files should be easier and quicker to read and load and display. -- Niraj
