Creating teaching apps for my classroom

I am a newbie to this process and would like some suggestions as to where I might start. I will begin as suggested by buzztouch, but I am fully intimidated by the process.

I'm hoping to create a rock cycle app and a rock and mineral identification app for High School kids. It will help them to learn to identify processes that create certain species of rocks and to help them identify specific rock types such as shale, quart, obsidian or sandstone.

Hi Danny, Welcome to buzztouch! I feel confident that you can develop the app you mentioned above using buzztouch! Take some time to review this document to make sure you have everything in place for developing apps. It'll save you lots of time and questions later: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out in developing your app. Just ask specific questions, and you'll get tons of responses! Thanks, Mark

As a former science teacher I can strongly advice that you invest time in Buzztouch, I am at present developing a biology revision app. My suggestone if teaching this is try not to tackle a large subject first, break it into smaller parts. One possible way would have keyfacts on a certain area e.g. the limestone cycle, you can link the process to videos on youtube, you could use the multiple questions to test there knowledge. One further suggestion is that I find students more engaged when active participators could as a class project get groups of students to each do a page of info with there pictures on the process and get there information to form the basis of an educational app that your students have been the contributors too. Danny - I would suggest you perform the following BEFORE starting Buzztouch: 1> Organize your content! I did the app first and realized the content didn't match the layout & had to redu my app...are you going to use PDFs? HTML-based content? Native text? Will you need to pinch/zoom? etc. 2> Map out your interface on paper first. It's difficult to go back and re-design the app in BT - you should have a good idea of how it should work first. 3> Try coding a Hello, World! first in your Dev Environment. You will have to mod some code and doing this exercise will create a comfort level invaluable. 4> Read Fred's blog thoroughly! It has most issues addressed and it is like a pseudo training session for distributing apps.

There's probably a few paid solutions, none free. But rest assured, When this is available, Sho ever accomplishes it will sing Hi & Low on the Forum. Fred

@Light-Shedder- What about using a contact form, just re-purposed for a quiz. You can set it up to email you when the "answers" are filled in. Just a thought...
