Transfer to new hosting

I am having issues with my current hosting... how easy is it to transfer my self hosting, or more importantly, my Database to my new hosting? i know i will have to install self hosting on the new hosting, i more asking about what happens to my apps already live and the DB on my old hosting that they use...? Thanks Steve

Hostgator is a popular choice. My self hosting is a bit slow and I was thinking of switching at one point, but after David Books announcement of planned changes for Buzztouch, I'm not sure what the future for self hosting, so I decided to wait for a bit.

Nothing wrong with Hostgator. Took me a bit to get used to but solid.
