Finereader (OCR) 40% off... If you need that sort of thing...

I'm currently creating an App to supplement/replace the Guam Drivers License Manual. So I went to our DMV and got the paper manuals (Car, Motorcycle, Chauffeur). They're all copies of copies, at $5 a pop. The 'Operator' manual was almost 50 pages. I entered it using 'speech to text' on my mac. Cool. But the other manuals are about 80 pages each... and I didn't want to go through that again. It worked ok, but I wanted something faster. I evaluated a few OCR (Optical Character Recognition, aka scanning images to text) and found the most 'bang for the buck' to be 'Finereader'. After scanning to PDF at a clients, I took my files and ran them through finereader. I kid you not; 100% accuracy. Even though the 'original' was a copy of a copy (of a copy?) that looked more like a pirate treasure map and although somewhat legible, failed miserably in all the other apps I tried. Fine reader picked up all of it, and even did a fair job on retaining the images as well. I have no part in this; I make no profit or gain. Just passing on a great program that worked for me. http://www.abbyy.com/finereader/pro-for-mac/?_ga=1.175066986.978487950.1449734099 It's currently on sale for 40% off the list price (normally $120, now $70) on the website, not the app store. And there is a demo available that works great (which is how I knew it worked) A little pricey, in my humble opinion. However, considering the time saved, it was well worth it. Cheers! -- Smug

what a cool program - $70 is a little bit much - but I can see it would be worth it to a lot of folks. Thanks for sharing Smug!
