Goodbye Scringo :(

Just got a depressing email that I'm sure a lot of you received as well - Scringo is shutting down in 60 days. Sad news as Scringo has contributed greatly to the popularity of many of my apps. To the Scringo guys - thanks for making such an awesome service and making it available for free, and good luck in the future! Please list any good alternatives that you guys are aware of. One of my favorite ways of using Scringo was combining it with the MacImage Gallery so that users could comment on pics. Are there any other SDK's that could replace that feature? (other than Socialize..I left that one behind long ago)

If our apps are running this, do you think our apps will now crash as it wont be able to call the scringo backend?

Wow -- Scringo was the most popular add-on within these circles. I guess a lot of BT apps will need to get updated within the community. As a poor substitute, perhaps you can roll your own equivalent with Parse? -- Niraj

I know that when is something Free you cant wait lot of it.. and if the developers of scring couldnt make any money from it , is logical to terminate their project But as i was recently add Scringo in my basic app and was planing to add it and in my other applications.. i am wondering if Buzztouch moderators could tell to the Scringo developers to make it as a Pay pluging... as lot of others here in Buzztouch they could make it as a pay-pluging and all the users that wanted to use it.. pay for it.. or maybe could make it to be installed in the BT self hosted servers so we could run it without the need for their server (so Scringo developer team hadnt to pay for servers and have more profite)

It's unfortunate that they are shutting down; however there may be good news. About 5 months ago, I really wanted to replicate my own "social network" capability within the buzztouch platform and have been spending my free time developing as such. I haven't thought about making it an available SDK for ppl to use but if enough interest, I may possibly work on allowing others to use it. I'll have to find a way to split it from my control panel which is heavily modified to allow others access to it.

I say, make a list of, say, five most popular features that you were using Scringo for, and organize developers here (or from Scringo originally) to produce something equivalent.

Yeah, bummer....great idea about listing favorite qualities. Looks like we have about 60 days to come up with an alternative. 4 of my apps have Scringo integration.

I'm think I'm probably gonna go back to Socialize for now. Looking at http://www.getsocialize.com it looks like they haven't updated their front page once in the last two years...they are still listing two of my oldest apps (which probably don't even run on new iPhones anymore) on their "Featured Apps" list. Still, oddly enough it looks like they are still updating their SDK frequently, and it's free to use up to 100,000 active users per month. Can't really think of a better alternative at the moment

Scringo was my favorite SDK! This is sad news. Like David says "change is good" so lets just move on.

With this recent news, what's your course of action? 1) Leave your app as is, and see what happens in 60 days 2) Upload a new binary without scringo If it's #2, would you just remove the scringo framework from the Xcode project (and upload a new binary)? I haven't implemented it in a long time

I decided to upload a new binary without Scringo. I was using Scringo plugin for a very simple chat room, but liked that people had to login with a Facebook or Twitter account.

What about the existing users? Should you inform them that the chat room will not be available any more? Would you offer them some alternative?

I haven't found a replacement for the scringo plugin. I don't want anonymous, postings and with scringo you could require Facebook or Twitter to login, so unfortunately, I'm not offering an alternative at this time.

Hi guys! @Imagenparaweb (this is a bit late but...) emailed scringo guys and they said was impossible. It's a shame we don't have a social plugin that allows us to build communities in our apps long term, or is there one I just don't know about? Going to try installing socialise again after not having done so in ages... has anyone had any / solved any compatibility issues with new Buzztouch as i was seeing some issues on forum?
