Google Maps APIs and Library

Hello all- Maybe I missed something or didn't read something I should have but after having installed the Java 6 and 7 JDK's, Android SDK Tools (R12), Eclipse 3.7, ADT Plugin and Google Plugin but I couldn't figure how to install the 2.2 API's and Google Maps Libraries so when I tried to run my app of course it said missing shared library meaning Google Maps. I know it mentions Google Maps APIs in the README file but I could access them. I'm using Eclipse SDK Version: 3.7.0 (Indigo) This is what I did: 1. Close Eclipse and Reopen it Then select Help > Install New Software. In the dialog that appears, enter the update site URL into the Work with text box: http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.7 (in my case) (Be sure to use the correct plug in for your version of Eclipse. 3.7 is Indigo, 3.6 is Helios, 3.5 is Galileo) And press the enter key. 2. You should see the center box filled with Plugin and SDKs. Select the checkbox next to both of these. This will install the plugin (Google Maps APIs YES!), a Google App Engine Java SDK and a Google Web Toolkit SDK. Click Next. 3. Review the features that you are about to install. Click Next. 4. Read the license agreements and then select I accept the terms of the license agreements. Click Finish. 5. You will then be asked be asked if you would like to restart Eclipse. Click Restart Now. You will need to have a google account. While the indexes were installing (you will see a progress bar below the console window in Eclipse after it was restarted) I had to sign in to Google to continue installing. You will see a Google sign in icon on the lower left hand side of the Eclipse window below the Package Explorer. After Eclipse finished installing, I restarted it again to be safe. Now you should be be good to go! I apologize if some of this is redundant but these steps helped this newbie so I hope it helps you too and great job Buzztouch! Can't wait for the second rollout.

Hello, Thanks for this, I followed it all in my aim to get android 1.5 working on an android emulator :) I click on my app name in eclipse, then click on the green > button to build the app. It tells me to choose a virtual device. When I choose google4 AVD name in my list of virtual devices, platform 1.6, API 4, it does try to do it, but then I get thie error: ERROR: Application requires API version 8. Device API version is 4 (Android 1.6). Fair enough, looks like this virtual device is too old for the curent app I want to build. When I choose Galaxy platform 2.2, API level 8, it says: [2011-10-15 17:01:36 - Bridge Foundations] Performing com.bridgefoundations.BT_activity_root activity launch [2011-10-15 17:01:41 - Bridge Foundations] Launching a new emulator with Virtual Device 'Galaxy' [2011-10-15 17:01:42 - Bridge Foundations] New emulator found: emulator-5554 [2011-10-15 17:01:42 - Bridge Foundations] Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched... [2011-10-15 17:02:49 - Bridge Foundations] Launch canceled! When I choose Android 2.3.1 API pevel 9, it says - unavailable shared library com.google.android I've just gone into 'available packages' and downloaded all of them (including google things). They download & look like they are installing, no errors etc. But when I go back in here later and see what packages are available for download (display updates only), all the same ones are there, like I didn't download them. :( If anyone had any advice I'd be very grateful. I went into Android SDK & AVD manager last night & spent a fair while downloading every I could up there. update - I'm trying to download & install SDk platform android 2.2 API 8. I get a warning saying 'a folder failed to be moved'. Now I've googled this, search here, tried a few things, including deleting source.properties, unzipped tools_r13-windows and copied it into the tools folder, stopped adb.exe running, turned off my antivirus........... no joy. Thanks! Elaine.

Hi elaine, You'll want to be using Googles API 2.2 level 8 for your Android 1.5 apps. See if that is in your list of options.

Hi Parker :) Thanks hugely for your feedback! I went to window > Android SDK & AVD manager. Installed packages: I have the following google packages installed - Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (revision 3), 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and a google USB driver package, google admob, google market billing & google market license. Available packages from Google > third party addons; Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (revision 2), 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, google USB driver package, google admob, google market billing & google market license. When I go to window > preferences > android, I se a big long list of SDK targets, android 2.2 level 8 is there and google 2.2 level 8 is there as well. If that helps lol :) Thanks very much, Elaine.
