BB Playbook app install error

Has anyone seen install error 0008? When I try to install my app onto my playbook from App World I get this. Other apps load fine. This is an approved app. It was an Android app that I converted. Not much for answers on the blackberry forums. If anyone could try and download, and see if it works that would be great. The app is MTI Irrigation. I don't know anyone else with a playbook locally. I am going to try and load in development mode now that I have a device and see if that works as well. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim, I'm having the exact same error with an app that I submitted for the PlayBook challenge, and which was approved, put in App World, and earned me a PlayBook! First thing I did when I got my PlayBook running was to try and install my own app from App World...got the Install Error 0008, and have never been able to figure out what the deal is! Makes me wonder if BB does any testing on their apps. It did work on the PB simulator before I submitted it, but I'm not sure what the exact issue is. Mark

Thats strange. I just tried your app MTI Irrigation and noticed the error you are receiving. I've tried downloading all my playbook apps and they work fine. They do check apps since on one of them they wanted certain code out that I had on one of the apps.

I have one called "What Jesus Says" if anybody wants to give that one a run from App World!

Tried yours Mark, same error as mine. Once I get some time I am going to try and make a new build and try an update. Don't think I am going to chance anything in the code. From what I can find online it may be something to do with code signing not being compatible with certain versions is playbook OS? A few forum posts saying they had issues right after an OS update I will post what I find Jim

Change the version on your app to 2.0. They made me do that on the first two. Maybe that will solve it?

Thanks Coderx, I tried that but no luck but, I did make a little progress on this. I was getting a code sign error in Eclipse on one of the files. I deleted the contents of the dist folder, updated my SDK, changed the properties of the project to Google API's and ran a new build. I was able to build and sign with no errors. For some reason I can not upload files in the developer portal, so that will have to wait. I did find another problem though. I am running the app on my Playbook and noticed that none of my PDF's will load? When I click on a screen to load one it tries then tells me "the file path is not valid" Anyone seen that? Jim

My new version was approved and now downloads fine, but I am still getting the PDF error. Searching the web I found an article about changing the security settings for Adobe Reader, but the Reader does not show up in the list of apps to change permissions??? Not sure if this is an issue with just my playbook or the app or both. If someone could try and download the new version MTI Irrigation 2 and try to view the catalog that would be great. Jim

I'm having the same problem too.. I think it was to do with this permission <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE"/> The more reading I do the more it looks like the Playbook is using some sort of secure memory section of the SD card and that permission is required... only, if you look at the Manifest file within Eclipse an error is returned that says only system apps can use this permission. Other people are discussing this issue too... but I'm having trouble creating the code work around they suggest. Any ideas? http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-3-2-code-inadvertently-preventing-write-access-to-external-storage/
