Free webhosting service

Can someone with the knowledge take a look at what this site offers and let me know if it has the available free service to run BT Server? Looking to give it a try before I go with a paid hosting site. Thanks

I worked in the domain name industry for a long time and have learned a great deal about hosting. Free hosting is going to have more limitations then tools and if they promise the world for free don't trust it. I have used http://HostASAP.com for a long time and never had a problem. Great support and you'll be able to run BT Server with no problems. And it's only $5.00 a month.. I'd check them out..

@Malikai... Thanks for the advise... I will check them out..... I'm happy to say that I installed the BT Server following the PDF supplied in the download. Worked great. So at this point it's looking good.. Ok to use the http://www.000webhost.com/ free service as far as I can tell. They have a nice control pannel to get you what you need as far as FTP or directly editing the directories with a webview. I'm up and running as far as I can tell. I loaded all the plugins and started to look around at the control panel in BT. I built one Android app that was just a splash screen and a Web browsewr page. The splash did not show-up but the Browser worked ok. Now I'm trying it in IOS. I'm just not sure what plugins are actulay working or not.... for IOS or Android. I'm guessing they all should be working at this point. But the Splash screen just hung there.

One thing that I will caution members here about hosting is the invisible specs that you cannot see when you sign up. A webhost will list how much space they'll give you, and how much bandwidth you're allotted. And they will tell you what the features of the hosting account are (linux, apache, mysql, php, etc). But the invisible part is: How many shared hosting accounts are on their servers If the server is "oversold" What the average server load is This information becomes critical if you have hopes that your app has great success in the app store. Because if your app is reliant on your server, and there becomes an overly high amount of load on the hosting server, the hosting provider will quickly suspend your account, making your app possible fail upon download (which may lead to poor reviews). But if you are installing BT-server just to play around with, and have no plans on releasing an app tied to it - should be no worries.

I fully agree with Stobe. You also need to know that there is no such thing as Unlimited. If you abuse a service or use too many resources your account will be terminated. Overselling is a major issue with hosts because they don't think you'll really use the space allowed, most people don't use 5 GB of space so by saying you can have unlimited or 1500 GB of space they think you'll be impressed. The most critical thing to look for is support. Find out if your support team can actually help you or will they tell you to submit a ticket. Free hosting is great for testing but I wouldn't use it for production work. I'm actually writing a book on the subject :) Anyway, let me know if you have any more domain/hosting related questions.

Good informaton. I'm using this free one as a test-bed for doing it live one day on a robust paid service model. But I do understand the points you have both made. Thanks

@gbakakos Can you help me out. Using same site to learn on. What did you use when installing BT server as your physical path and your root url?

on www.000webhost.com I used /www/xxxx.xxxx.com/BT-server for Application PHYSICAL PATH (not a URL) http://xxxx.xxxx.com/BT-server for Application ROOT URL like http://www.domain.com/BT-server (not /install) xxxx.xxxx.com is your domain name. I assume you are using the free one they give you. Any questions just ask.

000wenhost stated that you have to put your files in their /public-html folder. You didnt have issues not installing there?

You ftp the BT-server folder into /public-html so it will look like /public-html BT-server ... other directories ... install ... etc... then you need to create the DB per the PDF instructions Then in the browser you paste the url http:// xxx.xx.com/BT-server/install the install script will start and you plugin the DB information. Just follow the PDF word for word... If you like I can set it up for you in 15 mins....

The end of the install process requires you to make a change to the config.php file in the /BT-server directory. That needs to match what you entered when you did the install script. In the cpanel click on the mysql db icon and you will see the host name, user and db name and you can reset the PPWD if need be. Make sure the host name is not local... it should be the MySQL Host name from the info you get from above when you look at the DB settings

That message you are getting means it can't connect to the Database most likely because either the Install script was given the wrong information or the edited config.php file has the wrong info in it.

Well, never mind. It took two hours, but I found my typo in the config file. Ugh.
