Just have to post - SO COOL

While attempting to set up my self-hosted Buzztouch Control Panel on an Amazon EC2 instance, I had a little trouble getting my API keys validated. I posted a thread here describing what I'd done and where I'd gotten stuck, followed by a request for help. Then a few more (desperation isn't pretty). Niraj Shah responded and referred me to PSMDanny, whose first guess at what might be wrong (cURL not installed) was right. So this means I can finish up my new "how to" on setting up a self-hosted Buzztouch Control Panel on EC2, and I expect to make that available within the next several days. And in that time, I also have to test my self-hosted Control Panel and make sure everything's really working. The best way to do that is to start developing plugins and apps. This means I'm now getting into the really fun part. And it's just SO COOL to have my own Control Panel running "in the cloud." Not because of the cloud aspect, but because I HAVE MY OWN BUZZTOUCH CONTROL PANEL and I can make plugins and apps. And that's why I had to post, because I'm so excited about that, and I figure other self-hosters can understand what I'm feeling. I'll have to do "extensive testing" of my Control Panel this weekend. After all, I wouldn't want to publish a "how to" on self-hosting that doesn't yield a perfect working installation! :D

Congrats! It's a great feeling to get that thing going! And Danny is an Ace, so you're in good hands! :) When you get it all up and running, be sure to stop by Mr. VanBeveren's "www.buzztouchmods.com" website. It's the unofficial place to find scripts to 'Hot Rod' your BT Self Hosted package, including 'themes' to make your site a bit more unique, enhance your control panel with some of Danny's custom scripts, even I've contributed a few things to help simplify tasks. "Most" things are free, and well worth the look. It's a fun browse when you've got time on your hands. Cheers! -- Smug

I loved the moment too... the only problem is that it means less time on the Buzztouch site. You wait until you get your CSS looking good. I keep perfecting mine every weekend, and I'd say mine looks pretty slick too! That's a moment to enjoy: finally your control panel can look so different!

Now I'm actually working on app development, learning Javs, and making plugins, but I still get a great kick out of updating the plugins in my self-hosted Control Panel.
