(resloved) Moving Self Hosted BT-Server from one domain to another

I have read several threads on moving apps between hosted and non hosted servers but nothing on moving from one self hosted domain to another. I am currently self hosted on GoDaddy but like many others, I am frustrated with their refusal to open the necessary TCP ports to facilitate push notifications. My hosting package is about to expire with them so I am moving over to HostGator. Instead of transferring my current domain from GoDaddy to HostGator, I just purchased a new domain and brought it up on HostGator (again this was because of GoDaddy dragging their feet and making the transfer a nightmare). Anyway to my question. I only have one app in my current BT-server that is still in development so it has not gone live yet. Any suggestions on the least painful way to move the app from my current server to the new one? If the domain name was staying the same I think this would be pretty simple but with a domain name change, I think it is going to be a lot of work.

There are a couple of tools out there on the https://www.buzztouchmods.com/site or, if there are not too many screens, it may be easier to just retype them and use cut and paste on the new control panel. Alan

Usually Hostgator just copies all of your info on your cpanel at godaddy and install it in their host. It would be easier to use the same domain. Not using the same domain, you just have to copy the directory with all the info and copy the database. Then just use those backups on hostgator. Shouldn't be any trouble. Let us know if you need any help with that.

The most recent thread of this nature is this: <a href="https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=03D0FED4CA63AE899242DEB" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=03D0FED4CA63AE899242DEB</a> Install Buzztouch control panel, copy what files have you and manually export / import the database, then ask Hostgator support to open the ports for push. If your app is explicitly referencing the domain you are leaving at GoDaddy, change the references to the new domain. That should be about it; as always, if you have problem with the transfer, don't be afraid to ask.

I recently did the same thing. Dropped GoDaddy for HostGator. Moving over was easy, and I did it myself instead of having hostgator do it. I simply reinstalled BT 3.0 on the new server as a clean install, copied over my old "files" directory, and restored my newly created database from a backup of my old godaddy database. Just make sure the BT core is the same version if you go this route.

Just make sure you keep you Database stuff. As I learnt yesterday, it's what keeps all your content together. Keep a backup of every single file and database with you while you transfer. 1) Install the self-hosted software as usual... redownloading it from the Buzztouch site. 2) Put in the new information about databse users and so on. Install as if it were new 3) Drag the /applications folder from the old site into the new, replacing the new /applications directory 4) Upload the old SQL to the new SQL. This will link it all together. 5) Hunky Dory... hopefully.

Yes, I will be moving everything myself and restoring the database. I actually already got HostGator to open up the proper TCP ports, that only took a few mins via live chat. I was very impressed with their responsiveness. Coming from the lack of responsiveness of GoDaddy it was a breath of fresh air. Thanks for all the responses as I am sure this topic will be popular as more user switch to HostGator

Got everything going on the new domain, really a piece of cake. Thought it might be more complicated because the domain was changing but just had to edit a few custom php files in my app that pointed to the old domain.
