ugly transitions..any way to fix it?

I've noticed that transitions seem to be a little uglier than they were before 3.0. When I transition to a new screen using the design menu or simple menu, the nav bar changes color for a second while the transition is happening. Does that mean the bar stays the same color throughout the entire app? I'm having trouble figuring out how to implement it..the instructions are a bit too technical for me.
