Can't find the debug.keystore

Hi I’m new to building mobile apps. And now I can’t find the debug.keystore. I’ve have spent two days looking for solution but nothing some to do the trick. Hope someone can give me some pointers. I’m running Eclipse SDK v 3.7.1 and I have the developer tools installed. Eclipse gives me a path where I should be but there is nothing there.

Mac: /users****/android/debug.keystore (***- username directory) The Android build tools provide a debug signing mode that makes it easier for you to develop and debug your application, while still meeting the Android system requirement for signing your .apk. When using debug mode to build your app, the SDK tools invoke Keytool to automatically create a debug keystore and key. This debug key is then used to automatically sign the .apk, so you do not need to sign the package with your own key. The SDK tools create the debug keystore/key with predetermined names/passwords: Keystore name: debug.keystore Keystore password: android Key alias: androiddebugkey Key password: android CN: CN=Android Debug,O=Android,C=US If necessary, you can change the location/name of the debug keystore/key or supply a custom debug keystore/key to use. However, any custom debug keystore/key must use the same keystore/key names and passwords as the default debug key (as described above). (To do so in Eclipse/ADT, go to Windows > Preferences > Android > Build.) Caution: You cannot release your application to the public when signed with the debug certificate.

Question: Why are you trying to find the Debug keystore? Seems to be a common issue. As noted above, it there automatically, why the effort?

@Fred: Sorry it is not. I have done every thing to find it. And I have had a hardcore coder-guy to look at it, and he can't find it either.

Also, knowing why you're looking for it would help solve your problem.

It's there if Eclipse is installed correctly. I found it after realizing some directories were hidden, from view as well as from search. You need the debug key to get the md5 fingerprint so your Google Maps works during testing. It will be in a directory ''.android''

By default, build tools create the debug keystore in the active AVD directory. The location of the AVD directories varies by platform: Windows Vista: C:\Users\<user>\.android\debug.keystore Windows XP:C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\.android\debug.keystore OS X and Linux:~/.android/debug.keystore If you are using Eclipse/ADT and are unsure where the debug keystore is located, you can select Windows > Prefs > Android > Build to check the full path, which you can then paste into a file explorer to locate the directory containing the keystore.

What OS...? You say you have Eclipse and the developer tools but didn't specify if it was the ADT from Google or not?...Did you add the ADT software into the Eclipse environment from the Help--->New Software----> https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ After install, you should be able to find the .android folder in your User folder (make sure permissions are set accordingly)

@StepWiseMedia - I am a newbie and trying to set up my environment. I have gotten to the step you mention above (Eclipse - Help - New Software - Add) and it does initially find the Developer Tools, however when I get to the Install Details screen I get an error message that prevents me from going further. The message is: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: Android Development Tools 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534 Any ideas?

@StepWiseMedia - I figured it out from a google search: you need to go into the Properties of Eclipse (right click on the eclipse icon) and check the box Run as Administrator in order for the above step to work.
