Any resolution to Push Notifications hosted GoDaddy?

Per this thread... https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9A9D62232E8EAC574F34609 I'd be surprised if there wasn't more folks self hosting at GoDaddy. Did anybody get it to work or is it a case the BT can't be self hosted there unless it's dedicated? I appreciate that it works at other providers, but I'm not in a position to switch as I'm piggybacked on someone elses service :) I am subscribed to the other threads, but no updates other than 'Change provider' Thanks. Graham. FC.

If you are using GoDaddy Web Hosting, they will not open the ports to send push. If you are using GoDaddy Virtual Private Servers, then you can call them and get the ports unlocked. I use Host Gator, they work great. Jake

Hmm - I wasn't aware of that, but that's not good news for me since I'm using GoDaddy shared hosting. (Too many other things on my plate right now to test out push). What type of hosting on Host Gator works - do all 3 plans comply?

I believe that even the lowest plan is compatible. I believe it is called: "Hatchling" Jake

Your option might be to use Parse. I use it and am a godaddier. Works a treat.

I am also hosted with GoDaddy and they will not open the ports for 'security' reasons. Too late to change host for me

It almost sounds like some of these web hosts are not too keen on folks running their own APN servers? I'm thinking we must have a APN server packaged inside our BT server and hosts have to open ports for it to work. Very Interesting... Having some other issues with Go Danica on a new SH, but yet to try PN.

I just tried calling GoDaddy with no luck. I also submitted a support ticket to GoDaddy....maybe that will get through.

Thanks Susan. I don't really want to go through the mess of changing hosting providers if I don't have to...

Me either. I tried to explain that a lot of us would have to switch if they can't open up the ports for us.

I believe their policy is: GoDaddy will not open ports on shared hosting environments, only on Virtual Private Servers and up. I kept my GoDaddy shared hosting plan, and bought a small HostGator plan. I then just pointed my domain name servers to HostGator, and my BT Server Works perfectly, even Push Works. Jake

I guess I'm waiting for the powers that be to tell us that we will have to change providers. I appreciate it may be out of their control, I'd just like to hear it from them. At least then I can decide where to host the app, BT or Godaddy depending on Notification needs.

That's a good idea. I will probably be doing that too. I thought it would be a lot harder to make the switch. Is your SQL with GoDaddy or with HostGator?

I should add that when I was on the phone with them, I showed them the forum posts and explained that this wasn't just a little problem for one little customer. The person on the phone seemed concerned, but didn't have the power to do anything other than suggest filing a ticket.

Awesome. Give 'em heck. Unfortunately we're not the only ones that have brought this to their table before...... http://support.godaddy.com/groups/web-hosting/forum/topic/problems-with-apns-apple-push-notification-service/ >>> You will not have access to port 2195 on a shared hosting environment. If you require this, you would need to consider a virtual dedicated or dedicated server. – christianh (Godaddy support) said 1 year & 6 months ago... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1811919/how-to-check-connectivity-of-apns-port-2195-from-my-hosting-server I'll settle for a few Danica 8x10 glossies then and stick with Parse and remember to ask my host next time....

Thanks ATrain - looks like I'll have to consider dropping GoDaddy when I get ready for push. I don't really care for their marketing tactics anyway, so I don't feel too bad. :)

I am afraid I had no luck with GoDaddy. I will be moving to Host Gator.

I would highly suggest moving to HostGator. I've had a great experience with them.
