NEWS: Flickr and Remote Data Provider now supported for Image Galleries

This is cool. For v1.5 Image Galleries, you can now provide your own data (list of image) from your server, or from Flickr. This is very very powerful because it allows you to dynamically add photos to your Galleries without the need to visit your buzztouch control panel. Stay tuned for a .PDF (in the Image Gallery Advanced Settings) containing some details on how to do this.

Thanks for the great integration ability with Flickr. I'm unfortunately getting the iPhone Cloud error graphic. My Flickr API URL appears to format properly in the browser. Using the latest compiled code. Any ideas?

Lets do this: a) Like you already did, load up the data in the browser... looks good - cool. b) Remvoe the app from the sim (you probably already did this too) c) Launch the app and look at the output in the console - any clues? d) Find the simulators data directory (can't remember the path, Google search to find it, super easy) Look in that directory.. there should be a text file cached in this folder called 'screen_[long id for the screen].txt Open it with an editor- does it have the Flickr data? I tested this on a bunch of devices yesterday with good results, something simple happening?

Ok, sounds like were getting somewhere. I copied the first URL above into my image gallery...saved...refreshed the sim - got a bunch of pics for lights. When I revisted the screen properites, I see the same URL I typed - nothing changed. Could it be that there is an issue with the control panel and were not working with the same screen? I'm entering the URL in the Data URL field.

That's where I'm putting the URL too. The issue with the /? being removed seems to occur when I update the item. Deleting the line and adding it again fixes the issue. (So, yes there seems to be some issue in the control panel.) What are some other settings in the control panel? Watching the console everything seems fine, just no pictures get displayed except the cloud error default. The app is Jim on Light 2 and the screen is Gallery.

'Deleting the line then re-adding it' - this leads me to think you are not entering the dataURL in the dataURL box. Sound to me like your entering in the boxes to add images one-by-one. Open the advanced d gallery options... use that dataURL OK, just looked... yes, you're entering the URL in the box to add images one-by-one. Remove the image from the list then overrite the standard dataURL in the advanced properties. Bet it works ;-)

Aha. Makes much more sense now. And that works. Did I miss that directive in the PDF? Thanks again, David!

Now, I guess I'd love to see some more built into the Flickr functionality... Is there a way to get the photo title and author name to display with the photo?

Yeah, makes total sense. Our idea is to create a new screen type specific to each photo service, Flikr, Photobucket, Picasa, etc. The current image gallery should probably accept title, description, location, and other details buts it's primarily designed for the one-by-one manual entry folks. Or the folks that provided images from their custom feed. We'll get there - LOTS to do.
