iMac Specs- What do you Suggest?

Hi, I have a Mid 2010 iMac, with these specs: 27' i5 28Ghz 16GB 500SSD I found a buyer for my iMac and am wanting t o buy a new one, and I'm unsure which one to pick. I choosing between one of these: 27' i7 3,5Ghz 8GB 1TBFusion GeForce GTX 775M 2GB OR 27' 5K i5 3,5Ghz 8GB 1TB Fusion Radeon R9 M290X 2GB The price on them are identical, and I'm told that its better to for the 5K, since having an i7 3,5Ghz or an i5 3,5Ghz isn't that diferente. Keep in mind that i don't work with 3D or any advanced video rendering. What would you guys choose? Thanks.

I'd go for the most powerful one I could get, which would be the one with the i7 processor. The more power you can throw at things, the better. Especially with the prices being identical. Mark

i7 hands down, most things being equal. Find out if either the i5 or i7 (or both) is dual or quad core. Both have those options, and that would make my final decision; go for the better quad-core processor. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2404674,00.asp And if you have a few extra bucks, replace that 'fusion' drive and get a 'real' SSD... Not sure what your prices are, but I just nabbed a 512GB SSD for $175 off Amazon, and a 1TB is around $400. US Dollars. I currently have a 1TB fusion drive in my machine, but the performance doesn't seem to be any better than my old 7200 rpm spindle drive... Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks guys. What some people say is that the 5K display is the future. I know I wanna keep this new computer for 5 years. SSD will be a future upgrade for sure. Hope it will allow to keep them both. The one I own now has the original 1TB Sata and I added a 500GB SSD 1months ago, and wow...

I agree on the i7. Personally, I'd also try to keep 16gb if you do much video editing. 5k looks awesome - watched some 4k video on one - but not sure how necessary ;)

I have the same opinion, Think the diference between the i5 3,5Ghz and i7 3,5Ghz must be the cache, right?

My first post in a while! I have the 5K iMac and although the screen is great, in my opinion having the i7 would be a better option. I find myself rarely needing the screen's size, although it does sometimes come in handy when viewing some of my GoPro clips! Both are very capable computers, and the 5K iMac is certainly not slow. BTW, the Fusion Drive already has 128GB of SSD, so a future SSD upgrade is not necessary.
