Which Eclipse download?

I am of course a newbie here. I tried installing everything last night but could not get the Android Package to be recognized by eclipse. I tried this on my home laptop but now I'm at work on a Win7 64bit system. I need to know specifically which Eclipse download to use. Thank you for your help. Chris

Eclipse Classic 3.7.1 is the most recent. Link for 32 and 64 bit versions http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/release/indigo/r you will also need the Android SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/eclipse-adt.html

Im using JAVA SE kit 6 update 25 Not sure how it works with the new Java 7 version. You can always uninstall the Java later and downgrade if you have any issues...

Thanks again. I'll post when I have it working. Also, do I need a Mac to develop for the iphone?

Yes a MAC is required to complie and test the IPHONE/IPAD stuff. Some have gotten versions of the MAC OS to run in a virtual machne on a Windows box (XP) but it may not be worth the effort. Plus I hear it's not to stable.

Probably the silliest question.... Can I compile on an iPad? I have one of those. If not, it looks as though I may want to hire someone to build my apps.

Hi @clognion, For Android, you need to install the JDK (Java Development Kit) in order to get the Android SDK to work. Using just a JRE will cause the SDK install to fail. For iOS, you have to use Xcode in order to compile your apps, and that has to be run on an Intel-based Mac. I use a Mac Mini that I picked up on Craigslist to do my work on. But, in order to make apps for iOS, you will have to get a Mac, and you will have to join the Apple Developer Program at a cost of $99/year. Mark

Hi in Lake Charles. Maybe walk through the Android Eclipse Test video here: http://www.buzztouch.com/videos/ See if you can get your machine compiling a basic Android app before worrying too much about your buzztouch download.

My Eclipse looks a little different then what is showing in the video but the biggest issue I see is that I only have 1 choice for a build target (Android 4, API 14) I guess I'm not quite set up. I'm trying to find help on the Google API target and or API keys. I have tried to closely follow all instructions so far. Chris

OK... I have had a little success. I was able to complete the Hello World demo in the video and I also downloaded and ran my app from buzztouch. One of the items I was trting to test is a video I have in my Amazon S3 account. I chose to use streaming video and I included the URL to the video. The simulator says that the video cannot be played. Also, I tried an email item and it says that it will not work either. Baby steps, I know.... Does anyone have any ideas for me? Chris

Just a guess but your video format might also be an issue. Here's a link to Android accepted formats. http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
