Push notification services

Hi guys, I am looking for a free push notification provider that is not Parse.com or BT. Any suggestions? Right now I am looking at urbanairship.com, mixpanel.com or pushwoosh.com. Has anybody out there successfully integrated any of these for push notification? http://urbanairship.com/ https://mixpanel.com http://www.pushwoosh.com/ Cheers, Farcat

I have used Urbanairship, until a while ago, worked well and there is a nice little iphone app to send push notifications, couldn't get it to work on new BT package. Now using parse and Fred has a cool channel push plugin available for it.

Thanks @Kaybee, Would love to carry on working with Parse but it makes my app fail to launch when not connected to internet. Do you have this issue too? Would love to read more about Fred's plugin, is it on http://www.myskylla.com? Cheers,

I'm having the same problems as @farcat on IOS with Parse, which up to now, is the only push solution I've been able to make work for a production app.

What would be wrong in using the Buzztouch Push Notification service?

Nothing wrong at all, except that I am hosting on GoDaddy and they just won't open the necessary port. Grrrrr When the time is up I'll migrate to another host but right now BT push is not a solution for me. Thanks @Kaybee, I'll have a look

@Thomas, do you have any difficulties with the Buzztouch push on your self hosted? I tried everything, but I could only get it to work in development mode. Alan

What is the push plugin named on BTM? I cannot find it unless I'm just completely missing it. :)

So does this integrate Parse push or is this a tool that works with Parse once you have manually integrated it into your project? Just want to be clear before purchase.

Parse has the ability to push to certain channels. This plugin lets you subscribe to channels. You will still need to integrate parse yourself but it's easy enough to do

What about Scringo, they offer push and recently changed things so you can integrate only the features you need, unsure if you can have only push on its own but might be possible, might be worth looking into

Hi guys, I think I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem Farid is experiencing as well. I have an app available in the UK (both Android and IOS) for a business networking community called Business Biscotti, which uses Parse for push notifications. To do a test, I set my iPhone and Android to airplane mode then launched the app on each of them. The android one launched no problem, so all good there. When I tried to launch the IOS one, I got a black screen. I waited about 10 seconds then I was back to the normal screen with all my app icons (the pre-launch state?). I then enabled iPhone network access and the app launched. I then disabled wifi and launched again - it worked fine. Then I cleared the app from memory and it wouldn't launch. So my conclusion is that @farcat is spot on and an ios app with Parse will fail to launch if there is no internet at the time. Might be an easy fix for you coders out there? Cheers, Alan

When I sent my error log to Parse they said: "You're using a few synchronous, blocking method calls in your app. For example, "save" instead of "saveInBackground". This is not advised, as your main thread will get blocked until the network responds with data, and iOS might kill your app for becoming unresponsive on launch. You should have seen some warnings in the console about this." I wrote to David@Buzztouch about this, he hasn't come back to me yet - understandability considering the bad timing. @Mr stuck, I didn't know you could now select features, I'll have a look. @Niraj Shah, I'll check it out Amazon. What I am afraid of is that all these push notification providers might be using the same implementation method as Parse. In which case we would have the same problem. I don't understand what Parse are telling me but IF something needs to be changed to the BT core code it sure is the right time to highlight it. Farcat

OK, to conclude this thread: I dropped Parse.com as it is clearly not compatible with BT (when off the internet). Now I use www.pushwoosh.com, it works great and is fairly easy to integrate. If you read this and want to try, you might need this link to solve the linker command error: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12628249/keep-getting-error-messages-when-compiling-newest-version-of-admob-on-ios6-sdk Farcat
