iMac performance

Hey guys, I've always been a Windows guy, and know my way around it well. been using mac for two years now and I feel it's performance is way down. Should be much better. Does anyone have any suggestion as to ways to get better performance? Any software that will help with that or that will check for hardware errors? Thanks, Miguel

How much ram do you have in your mac, did you max it out. Maxing the ram worked out for me.

Use a bootable disk boot up with that disk and run a disk repair using disk utility that should help. Download ccleaner for the Mac and run cleaner that will clean up somethings as well.

@MadRod: Which iMac do you have (Late 2009, Mid 2010, Mid 2011, Late 2012 [If you do not know, you can find this by clicking Apple in the left corner, then about this mac, then more info])? What processor?

Have you tried clearing the PRAM? When booting, hold down command + option + "p" + "r". Jake

Applications ---> Utilities ---> Disk Utility ---> "First Aid" button on top center depressed then select "Repair Disk Permissions" This should help some especially if never done before. Agree with others too. Ccleaner has a good rep. Should be fast enough with those specs unless something is failing. Tim
