Custom URL crashes on Samsung phones

Instead of using .pdf's in the Android version, I turned the .pdf's into .htm files and then used the custom url plugin to access. The url points to the specific ".htm" file on a shared folder in Google docs. Seems to work well...except on Samsung phones. Those students who have Samsung, find that when they click on a chapter--which is supposed to open the custom url screen, it freezes and crashes. It seems to be a problem only on Samsung phones; it works fine on my Droid. Any ideas? If the Samsung is running 4.3, I believe it's the correct version, there has been some known bugs on 4.3. One way to fix this is have them update to KitKat Android 4.4.
