App Rejected because the menu icons are rounded, remembering the iOS springboard (screenshot inside)

Hello everyone! As the title says, I picked up the bad reviewer. My app was refused because " We found that the main menu of your app is too similar to the iOS springboard, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines. It would be appropriate to modify the icons of the app so that they do not resemble the iOS springboard apps." This was ok to me, because I added a "call" icon and a "camera" icon similar to the original, even if more detailed. (but still I asked myself why they didn't reject camera+ for having its icon too similar to the iphone camera icon, but whatever..) But asking again for what I had to modify, if that two icons or what, I got this answer: "Specifically, it would be appropriate to modify the shape of the icons so that they do not have rounded corners." So basically they rejected my app because the icons are rounded, like millions of app out there.. not even for the call icon, or the camera one (see screenshot).. I will submit it again with ugly square icons, hope they approve it. (screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y9auq37hl6qxn13/bT_forum_screeshot.png) Funny fact that designing square icons it would probably remember android.. I am speechless.. There are no question to be solved in this post, just wanted to share this issue with you all.

I had this once, was gutted. Thought my app looked so good - it did by the way - I changed the icons, made them more round and it got accepted. Similar to you I was annoyed as it had previously been accepted and was just an update. Constant battle.

I don't actually think it's the roundness of the icons, but rather how similar they look to actual iPhone icons. The phone icon looks right off my phone. The world and camera ones also make me think directly of the icons that come in iOS. I think what they want is something that looks unique, so that even the users paying the least amount of attention won't mistake it for an Apple product. I say stick with round, but make them less "Apple." Just my two cents! Mark

I agree with Mark..I found this a while ago that helps me step by step : http://www.iphonedeveloperlabs.com/2011/04/12/iphone-developer-tips-15-iphone-app-rejection-reasons-on-apple-app-store/ But one never knows what the Apple God's will say next. Best of luck...btw are you designing your own icons?

I would agree with Mark as well. I don't think the shape of the buttons to be an issue for Apple, but the graphics that are too similar to their own. Take a look at my app that was approved from the first shot. I have basically the same shape as you do in your app. https://www.dropbox.com/s/69qzc486fdwkgmm/Photo%20Apr%2025%2C%2011%2022%2018%20AM.png
