Tried GIMP maybe 6 or 7 years ago and couldn't understand a thing about it. Tried again recently - and still couldn't understand a thing about it! Go through basics and learn as much as possible from those tuts. It would be great if you could open an image and press a button that says "Get rid of all that white stuff around the edge and make it transparant" or "Just make this look awesome".
