great alternative to photoshop

If you don't have/don't want photoshop, use GIMP. It has all the same stuff

Funny. I've used photoshop and fireworks for years and years. Tried GIMP maybe 6 or 7 years ago and couldn't understand a thing about it. Tried again recently - and still couldn't understand a thing about it! Funny how we get used to using certain tools while others remain totally alien.

@Raveyd- I totally agree with you on this. I earlier tried using photoshop and didnot get used to it. But when i tried using GIMP it was really like a piece of cake for me.

My favourite's Fireworks, had the same Macromedia version 8 since 2005. It's made by adobe now. So easy to use - for me anyway! hehe, modded my server package icon in fireworks, took about 25 minutes https://dl.dropbox.com/u/56760890/package_ios.gif

I've never used GIMP, always Paint.NET. How do these compare?

@raveyd- nice work with that gif animation. @mr-t-from-mk- sorry mate i have never used paint.net so i cannot add my opinion on comparing both of these softwares. @Ashy- You can create all of those stuffs using GIMP. Go through basics and learn as much as possible from those tuts.

haha! thanks @aquila198. Just a bit of nonsense when I had some free time... which is a bit worrying, I think there must be something I've forgotten to do.. :/ It gets worse, I did one for Android too... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/56760890/package_android.gif

I love Fireworks too! Best image editing software for my needs. I've been using Pixelmator a lot lately. Mac only. Currently on sale in the Mac App store for $15. Very easy to use and so elegantly designed. http://www.pixelmator.com/ Andy

The problem with graphics programs is they're such a pain to use, they all seem to be confusing. It would be great if you could open an image and press a button that says "Get rid of all that white stuff around the edge and make it transparant" or "Just make this look awesome". Haha
