Another button menu rejection

Hi, just got an app rejected for the second time, this time with the old "Specifically, your app contains rounded corner icons which may be confusingly similar to the native iOS device icon images. It may also be appropriate to remove these images from the metadata screenshots if applicable" excuse. Interestingly, I've just had 3 apps approved with those same rounded corner icons. My icons have a blue background with a picture and some text on them. It's making me think that they just don't want to approve this app. My next step now is to change the menu to a list with image, with the naughty rounded corner icons on the list lines.

uggh! so sorry - what a bummer & pain. I would hate for you to have to bend this way & gothe list image route, especially after your other 3 have been given the green light. I remember reading of BTers resubmitting, to get another approval person. I've never gone down this route, but perhaps someone else can chime in. My rejections have been for "marketing reasons"... (and bad one-liners). Good luck with it - rooting for you.

Play the odds... It'll take about a week or so to submit and get different person to review the app... So resubmit it for approval; while you're reworking the app to accomodate one snarky reviewer, another may pass it... Cheers! -- Smug

I would submit an appeal, and plainly state in the appeal something similar to the following: "With all due respect, only a blubbering idiot would confuse my artwork with actual springboard app icons. And we both know that neither Apple consumers, nor Apple employees are blubbering idiots. Correct??" That should do it. I caved and changed the buttons, to make the corners less round. I'm pretty sure that they are going to say that they are still too round though, and reject it again. Love your work Stobe, if I hear that they still don't like the buttons, I'll definitely appeal. Anyway, here's the before and after screenshots: http://www.communitytogo.com.au/Documents/Screenshot%202013.03.06%2015.43.30.png http://www.communitytogo.com.au/Documents/Screenshot%202013.03.12%2009.58.20.png

I made the buttons with a mac app called Art Text 2. It wasn't free but it's pretty good for making icons and pictures etc. I've got about 100 icons made now, all with those nice rounded edges. I'll keep you posted on the response from our friends at Apple.

Latest update on the button saga: I updated the icons on Buzztouch and sent them this message: If you refresh the app you will see that I have changed the icons from having the rounded shape which is not in compliance. I have also updated the screenshots to reflect these changes. And then I waited overnight for a response. When I checked this morning this is what I got: Thank you for your feedback. However, upon our review on a second device, we noticed that your app still contained images of icons with rounded corners. Please see the attached screenshot/s for more information. It may be appropriate to resolve the guideline 8.3 issue to be in compliance with the App Store guidelines. We look forward to reviewing your revised application. (they showed me a screenshot of an iPad with the old buttons) Do they just hate me or am I dealing with someone that's a bit dumb? So my new response : When you open the app in a new device, you will be prompted to refresh. On refresh, you will find that the icons have been updated to the new, less rounded look. This is valid for all devices including the iPad. And I included a screenshot. Cant wait for the reply.

Update: Here's the results of the appeal - the findings on March 11th were appropriate. Did they even read my appeal? March 11 was the date of the initial rejection.

I think the reviewers are ignoring the refresh, and focusing on the config.txt that's included in the build. So you might want to re-copy and paste the latest config.txt into your xcode project and recompile. Good luck. I know its frustrating.

Update: I resubmitted the app with the BT_config file and it was rejected again because the icons were still too rounded. I changed the icons once again so that they were completely square (pointy corners) and told them to refresh the app and have another look. I got this reply : Thank you for your prompt response and providing detailed information about your app. However, upon the initial launch of the app, the app displayed unresolved rounded corner icons. Please see the attached screenshot/s for more information. If you need help resolving this issue, it would be best addressed by Developer Technical Support, who can provide discrete code-level assistance. It may be appropriate to resolve the guidelines issues before resubmission. We look forward to reviewing your revised application. Instead of going to Apple to ask for some code level support I gave in and changed the app completely, turning it into a list menu. I know I could have recompiled with the pointy cornered icons but I didn't like them as much. Here is the new look app: http://www.communitytogo.com.au/Documents/Screenshot%202013.03.21%2015.58.38.png I wouldn't be surprised if they find something else to reject it for but fingers crossed!

Hi @ehwright, You are updating your Config.txt file then recompiling before submitting to apple correct? They will never hit the refresh button, just FYI Good luck!

Final update - the app got accepted with the new look. Luckily the client wasn't too upset by the long, long wait and was really happy with the new interface. Just goes to show that sometimes you just have to give in.
