apps about MLB or NFL teams??

For those of you that have created Trivia or information apps about MLB or NFL teams... will apple reject these apps if you put the sports teams name in the title. IE: trivia about the yankees or facts about the rams Also what about logos and images? Do you have to get approval for these even if your not selling them?

Hi @epicweb, First I see on map, your close to me. Logo and images would be a copyright infringement on any sports team without written consent. Even free but not sure on Apple rejecting them.

Definitely want to follow this thread. Even if it's not NFL, there are a tremendous amount of apps live that used copyrighted material: games/movies/etc. I'm always amazed at how many actually get through the approval.

Hi LA.. yes we're very close. Carrolton is just up the road from Glen Carbon. For example, I searched for Rams in the app store and I see several apps out there using the rams logo or rams in the app name. I would just hate to spend the time on development if its going to get rejected. Sean

@epicweb, Yes not far at all. I def. know about the copyright/infringements but you are correct I see a lot of them also. Especially with the Cardinals.

I have a sports app in the App Store (available at tinyurl.com/8nnbpxr)that has trivia and I just don't use the logos of the teams.

if you license to use the name, you can do it without any legal issue.

@MGoBlue was the one who had issues with this, as he has a couple college football apps. Licensing is paying money for the "privilege" of using a name or logo in your product. It can end up costing quite a bit of money depending on who or what you are licensing. Mark
