I tried eating a snow cone once in an effort to experience a mid west winter.

Keep a bottle of Scotch in the boot, it's a great survival kit ;) 1- Use it for defreezing the motor 2- A couple of drops and your can see through the windscreen, take the bottle your can hardly see your feet. 3- Heats you up and merry if stranded. 4- Give it to the breakdown truck guy,the probably won't charge you anything. 5- Give it the the policeman to avoid a illegal parking fine, but checkout if he has a red nose and a big belly. If he looks fit and thin, don't. You might end up having free bed and food for a while. MacApple can recommend a good brand, I'm sure. :) Happy New Year

@MacApple... I was in Scotland for New Year. In Edinburgh, there's no touch of snow! Time for kilts (or at least for those annoying bagpipers)! About 10 degrees Celsius here in the UK. What's your feeling on independence?

PADDY!!!!! My man with the plan. BIG smile on my face seeing your name. Hope this finds you well. You'd be proud of my bourbon and whisky consumption over the festive period, never more than one bottle at a time. Gave up smoking, drinking and fast cars for the new year. Oh, yeah, gave up telling the truth as well. Darn fine to see that avatar. Perfect tonic to a Monday and Stephens Monterey patter. Peace bro.

Dang LA, you're having a heatwave downstate at 5. -16 was just reported at O'Hare with a windchill of -31. Took me 3+ hrs to get to the office thanks to train and bus delays. I can almost feel my toes again. I need a snow scraper to see out my office window - this is the view from INSIDE my office currently: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73858894/2014-01-06.jpeg

LA I am jealous of you guys whoever enjoy having snowfall. Its winter here too but the temperature is about 20 degree centigrade (not fahrenheit). At worst it can not get below 14 degree centigrade. In summer its about 44 to 48 degrees hot...

Heating out in house. 34 degrees f here so officially my house is at freezing point, 0 degrees c. Awful. Can't get furnace going, send cookies and hot chocolate.

I've never experienced a summer as hot as this one, and we're less than a month into it. I think our ongoing streak of 40+ days with maximum temperatures above 31°C (about 88°F) is finally going to be broken tomorrow - all three of the weather sites I foolishly continue to check claim that it will rain all day tomorrow, and the high temperature will "only" be 28 or 29°C. I can remember entire summers in which it didn't get over 31°C for more than a couple of days (there may well have been zero days over 31°C in the summer of 2008). I cannot remember any summers with 40 days this hot. 40+ days IN A ROW of this is just ridiculous. I'd absolutely love this weather if I were living somewhere with a beach, but I'm stuck in a giant concrete jungle where 34°C feels like the end of the world (and we've had several days already this summer with highs above 34°C). Bleah!

Concrete jungle, sorry! That is crazy hot, was watching the tennis down under and they too are having a silly streak of dangerously hot weather. #ClimateChange
