Rejected because of Scringo?

an update that adds Scringo to my app was just rejected - 4.4 "We found that your app uses location data for features that are not relevant to location, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines." "We found that your app requests the user's core location at launch but does not provide location based functionality." "it would be appropriate to evaluate your app concept to see if you can include location specific features or revise your app to not collect, transmit, or use users' location data." What's this all about? Is this just a case of the reviewer missing the obvious "Radar" button in the side-bar that displays nearby users, or are they implying that this is not a "relevant" location feature? So what would you guys do - re-submit with radar disabled, or submit an appeal that points out the radar feature?

I would appeal and point this feature out. There is no reason to reject. I haven't used the latest version of Scringo but I have at least 5 apps using Scringo. One thing I hate about apples submission process and that is at times it can be inconsistant.

That sucks. My app that uses Scringo and the radar feature was approved about 3 weeks ago. Have you guys read about AppGratis being pulled from the AppStore? Scary stuff. They got pulled for push notification usuage and a new guideline about promoting apps that you that own. I wonder if this will affect the "More Games" link that a lot of us use in our apps. http://appgratis.com/blog/2013/04/09/appgratis-pulled-from-the-app-store-heres-the-full-story/

Ok, I just submitted a lengthy appeal describing the radar feature, how it can be accessed, and what it does - if it doesn't get approved I'll be really confused

Good man, radar isn't the issue, blind reviewer is. All the best with appeal! It'll be in in no time.

I would also give them examples of apps using the exact SDK that have been approved. Sounds like you were unlucky and probably got a newbie!

@Dragon007 - or this reviewer is right and all the others are wrong? Unlikely, but who knows? Maybe not give them examples of existing apps just to be safer...

Yeah, I've realized that they don't care about other apps when you appeal...they only care about YOUR app. If it is somehow not in line with the developer guidelines then that's all that matters Their own description of the app appeal process even includes this line - "Note that while other currently available apps may appear to be non-compliant, citing these will not be considered a valid reason for overturning a rejection" - I assume that goes for apps that are compliant as well

Funny thing is, if the appeal did get denied, all I would have to do is disable radar for review and then enable after approval...hmmm

I had an app like that once, all i had to do was add the function in the description of the app and make it visible known to the end user that it will use the location function for that purpose. and approved was done.

My energy, will be willing your app through. At least we all know what to expect when submitting apps with Scringo.

My app was just rejected for the very same reason - word to word. I appealed as recommended here, we'll see what happens. Maybe that's best way to do next time - disable Radar and enable it after review? Not working buttons (Radar) can also cause trouble, can't they?

They stil rejected the appeal... No I wonder if the Radar disconnection (on Scringo site) will do the treak. I know they don't like not-working buttons - Radar button in this case. Any thoughts? "We are writing to let you know the results of your appeal for your app, .... The App Review Board evaluated your app and determined that the original rejection feedback is valid. Your app does not comply with: 4.4: Location data can only be used when directly relevant to the features and services provided by the app to the user or to support approved advertising uses Your application uses core-location to determine the user's location however, we didn't find any areas within your app that utilize this information. Therefore, your app will not be posted to the App Store at this time. We hope you will consider making the necessary changes to be in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines and will resubmit your revised binary. "

So what? Are they just saying that even though the feature is there it isn't relevant enough? That's so ridiculous. Definitely just re-submit with radar disabled. Disabling the radar actually removes the button so you don't have to worry about a non-functional button

Hi everyone. Just registered here after having been a lurker for a while. We've just had our app approved with Scringo which I'm delighted with. I was initially very worried after reading a number of these threads but suffice to say it got approved first time with no issues. The app is called "One Direction World" and Scringo is currently on the iPhone version only (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/one-direction-world/id575159002?mt=8), but we've got an Android one going live later this week. What sort of benefits have you seen since adding scringo? We're quite hopeful of a good result as it fits our audience perfectly. We've had chat on our website OneDirection.net for a long time now and its always been great for user retention. Cheers, Chris.
