I agree it's somewhat difficult to get over the learning curve, but if you look at the other sites that offer anything similar there's no doubt this sites is far superior. Please say what your problem is and many will help you over the hump. Fred

Hi, Whats the actual problem? I had a lot of trouble configuring Eclipse, but in the end it turned out to be a simple thing that had been overlooked.

Have you tested this on the android emulator within Eclipse?

I can understand your frustration. Eclipse and Android are challenging and not very user friendly. That being said, there are tons of people using BuzzTouch and thousands of apps that have been created and deployed -- so the software is not bad. If you're getting errors with 1.4, most likely something in Eclipse is not set up correctly. It took me a couple tries to get Eclipse working properly. Did you follow the videos? That's the best way to get set up. I followed them step by step and my Eclipse worked. You can test your app using Eclipse first. Have you been able to do that? ig you can't get it to run on the simulator, then it won't run on your device. Disconnecting your app from BuzzTouch so you can make it run 'offlne' is possible with 1.4, but it's a bit more complicated. I've seen forum posts with instructions. Just do a search. Good luck. It does work and it does get easier.

Also, make sure to look at the 'how to' section. Lots of great information and step by step guides here: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/

Here's my advice. Baby Steps. First, don't worry about service or no service. Second, send me your Source Code (Don't worry about Eclipse). I'll send you an Apk which you install. Then you play with Buzztouch, see it's potential, then you'll be ready to tackle Eclipse. I understand the problem is basically too much terminology, too quickly, and lots of unexplained steps lead to failure. Start with one steps at a time, and you'll learn the terminology, that makes it possible to follow the how to guides & videos. Look at my name and you'll know my email address. Fred

Just download or email the apk to the device, open the apk and your device will install.

Keep in mind that v1.4 requires a connection to the Internet in order to download screens, so if the device has no service, or no WiFi or network connectivity, I don't think the v1.4 app would work. I'll also volunteer my services to compile your program for you and send you the apk file. You can reach me at MrkFleming at gmail dot com. Mark

@TraceCampbellBSNRN: Wow, all sorts of help offered here, including a volunteer to help you compile and get your app running. Not too bad eh' Like the rest of of on the forum, we get a little bunched-up when we see a post with 'this software is bad', then, followed with a 'I need someone to sign on to my computer to show me how this works' - geez, anything else you need while they are at it? I'm being short intentionally because it's unreasonable for you to ask folks to help you without first doing a bit of research yourself. I realize you've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this out and I also realize that you've probably spent a few bucks on a testing device - we all have. I can't remember how many days it took me to get going in this mobile-android-thing and I can't remember how many dollars I spent trying. But, I can assure you that it was more than the two weeks you've been exploring. With that said, if you're interested in getting yourself up-to-speed on how mobile apps are created and compiled, you've come to the right place. If you want somebody to do it for you, you are in the wrong place. There are lots of sites and developers in the wild that are willing to save you some time and frustration in trade for some dollars and it's not unreasonable to consider hiring them to help you. After all, it's a matter of balancing how much you want to learn vs how much you want to spend - right? Finally, this software is not bad. But, it's not for everyone. It for sure has tons of room for improvement and we'll continue to plug away at making those improvements but we will not ever be able to satisfy everyone and magically make all the difficulties with mobile development disappear. Stick with it, it's worth it ;-)

>>>if you're interested in getting yourself up-to-speed on how mobile apps are created and compiled, you've come to the right place. could not agree more. give people a chance, they will help here. the price is that you just have patience and contribute yourself when you can as well. best deal you'll find. real developers from BT are very present here and working to make a better product based on our input. 2 months since i found this place and i'm more impressed with its capabilities every time i use it. keep trudging, it's difficult but once you get past a few hurdles you'll see the true power.

If it still does not work, connect the Android device that has no service to Wi-Fi, and the app should run fine (After you have compiled it). What I did: 1. Bought an Android phone (Unactivated) 2. Uploaded my .APK to my server 3. Went into settings on the device and told it that it could download apps from other sources that just the Android Market 4. Went to the URL of my .APK 5. Went to Downloads (The thing that looks like iOS Notification Center 6. Installed the App 7. Clicked Open and it Ran. Troubleshooting: Q: Nothing is loading A: You MUST be connected to the internet (Wi-Fi does not always carry internet access) Q: An old version of the app is loading A: 1. Re-download, 2. Re-compile, 3. Re-upload, 4. Re-Doanload/Install/Open Q: In iOS, all of my features are loading, in Android they are not A: In BuzzTouch 1.5, Android was never finished, instead they started working on 2.0 (Plugins)

dude, it's all a learning curve! BT is all about community spirit & development, granted you need an intermediate level of IT to grasp & troubleshooting is a pain in the ass! but the satisfaction you get when it works outweighs it. Not for everyone! but I see in a couple years time BT being the next WP as the lines between apps and websites blur, stick at it!

Trying again with a very simple 1.4 app just one little page. Saved it and it wants to name itself As Act_Home. I don't know why because I named it something else. When I try to run it, I get 100 of 101 items that are errors. And 100 of 169 warnings. Also there is an error in the android manifest where the package is blank. I try putting something like com.tracecampbell.com in and that error goes away but still left with all the others. Advise please.

It's very likely your errors are due to an incorrect Google API level. You can safely ignore the warnings. See the install doc on the buzztouch.com/resources section for info on how to ensure you have a good install. Many props for hanging in there! Mark

@ TraceCampbellBSNRN: As explained in the README, you must set the project to run Google API v1.6 (for an buzztouch 1.4 app). All of the issues and all of the errors you're reporting are related to you Android environment. Have you successfully built an Android app at all (not a buzztouch app, but the simplest Hello World app). I know this is tough and I know Eclipse is frustrating. But, maybe forget about buzztouch code or project for awhile until you get your machine and your understanding of how Eclipse and the Android SDK work together before stressing more. I sooooo feel your pain and spent months doing the exact same thing. When I finally figured it out, I started a site called buzztouch.com to help folks get through this very tedious and stressful learning curve. We know it's not easy but do think that getting your machine setup they way it needs to be will trigger a lightbulb and a 'ahhhh, I see how this works' Wish we could do more but we can't get to your machine.

OK I have followed all of your great advice and I think I'm getting closer. I have managed to run the test hello world and it worked great. I have everything set right I'm using 1.4 and I am using google 1.6 as I was told to do. I created a crappy test app and uploaded it as I was told to do but it says my app has errors fix them before going on. The errors are in SRC And then com.v1_4.B62BB.... and then Obj_mapLocation.java and then Screen_LocationMap.java Any ideas?

SOME SUCCESS!!! You asked me what it was saying in the console. I had already closed down my mac so I started it back up and the errors were gone it opened in the emulator and ran just fine. This is a major break through so far. I don't know what caused the change. I will say there are some little exclamation yield signs but nothing stopping it from working. Now my next question. It's running in the emulator fine, but even when I plug in my android phone to my mac and hit run it always opens in the emulator, never giving me a choice of whether I want it to open on my device or not. any advice>

What I do is that I host my app betas on my server, and just go to the url. The Android phone will download, and install the .apk file, and it should run fine. What Android phone do you have?
