Buzzcon 14 and CodeCamp - Coming to Las Vegas April 21-26, 2014

All - It is my pleasure to announce the official Buzztouch User Conference “Buzzcon ’14”, to be held in Las Vegas, NV, USA on Saturday, April 26, 2014. We are still working on the final details, but this a day you won’t want to miss! Meet David Book and the Buzztouch leadership team, along with many of your fellow Buzztouch members. Be our guest at this special day of networking, learning, and fun! In addition, I’d like to announce Buzztouch “CodeCamp” - a five-day, intensive training opportunity with David Book, also in Las Vegas to be held April 21-25. If you’re serious about becoming a coding ninja and building amazing apps, and becoming a recognized leader in the Buzztouch community, this may be the program for you. A limited number of students will be admitted to “CodeCamp” - no more than fifteen - to ensure the best possible learning experience. Again, we are working out the final details regarding pricing and venue, but we promise it will be well worth your investment of money and time! So, mark your calendars for these two special Buzztouch events April 21-26. This time, what happens in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas...but it just might change your life! Keep an eye out for more details by following this post.

I'll most likely be attending as well. Question on code camp... is it meant for absolute beginners that look they are attempting to decipher ancient Chinese hieroglyphics when looking at objective C, or should attendees already have some sort of working knowledge of the language? Would love to attend an absolute beginners course, but don't want to take one of the 15 spots away from someone that would benefit more from it if I know it's going to be over my head.

@Angry Ninja - I don't believe this will be an appropriate investment for an absolute beginner with no experience, no skills AND no desire to learn. However, it sounds like you have a desire to grow and the benefit of time and a great user community to get up to a comfortable level before April 21. We will be laying out expectations for potential attendees before asking them for their tuition investment.

@tM - We're still working out the final price, so it is premature for me to post it here. But I will say this: we are very conscious of the balance between price and value and will be very respectful of that; our attendees will recognize that this is a premium experience, and the ancillary benefits will far outweigh the cost (for example, the network of fellow students, the credibility and standing within the Buzztouch community, the opportunity to develop profitable service offerings within and outside of Buzztouch, etc.); and that there will be a distinct price advantage for Buzztouch members (i.e. discounts greater than the membership price).

Don't worry, Thomas! There will be more opportunities. Lot's more. Depending on the price of airfare, maybe you should think about coming just for the weekend. David showed us that it can be done--he arrived in the UK on Friday, and left on Sunday morning. This included train travel from London to Oxford as well. No pressure though, because I know it costs a lot to fly to the US.

If I book now, it actually doesn't cost much. It's about £500 each way ($800). Not too bad but it's rather expensive for just the day. I'll think about it. Or I could just try to sneak out of school for three days.

Just to clarify, there is no San Francisco meetup in Jan-2014, instead it is in San Diego. Also, at this time, there is no San Francisco BuzzTouch meetup scheduled. San Francisco was mixed-up with San Diego. The real deal is in San Diego. -- Niraj

Just a brief update: I am still waiting on information from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors group to get the hotel nailed down. In addition, I believe we have settled on a price for Code Camp, which will be officially announced within the week. There will be an application process to assure that the 15 students will benefit from the investment. Once our world traveller David gets some time we will put the application out there for you.

Hi all - We've been pretty focused on putting together Code Camp, so Buzzcon '14 details have been pretty limited. I will put together a more detailed post soon, but here's what you can expect: Buzzcon '14 will be held at the Platinum Hotel (same as Code Camp). It will be a one day event on Saturday, April 26, with several group sessions, plenty of networking, and a surprise or two mixed in. Just like last year, Buzzcon '14 is free, and members and guests are welcome to attend. If you are attending, an e-mail would be appreciated to let us know (it helps in space planning, name tags, etc). Hope that helps - and hope to see you there!

The more I look at it, it is becoming increasingly difficult to make it. Sorry to let you guys down. Reason 1: While you set about at C++, I will have a broken ankle on the peak of some Alpine ski slope. Reason 2: It's too expensive for me, especially as I don't have a job and I'm only a high school kid. Reason 3: School! I'd have to miss out wonderful school! Also, I've got a moc exam during the days away. As much as I'd love to, I can't. But if anyone wants to come to BuzzDay Oxford next year...

@WolfTimJ - We just received the contract from the hotel about 3:00 PM Wednesday. Stephen Mercurio needs to sign and return to the hotel; once that is done you can complete the reservation process. If you do go ahead and contact the hotel, here's the information you will need to know: "Individual guests associated with the Group will be making their own reservations for suites in the Guest Suite Block by calling the reservation office at 877-211-9211 and request the Buzztouch CodeCamp and Buzzcon 2014 group." Hope that helps. Warren

Yes, the contract is now signed. See my earlier post on instructions for room reservations at the Platinum Hotel. I'll have a more detailed forum post in a few days. Look forward to seeing all of you in Vegas!

Just got my reservation in under the "buzztouch" group, is that the same group as the Code Camp group? Stoked! David.

What time does Buzzcon start on April 26? I am trying to book my flight. There is one flight arriving at 11 am on April 26. Or is it better arrive on April 25? Also what time does it finish? There is a flight leaving at 11:30pm or is it better to go the next day? Super excited to meet everyone again after such a long time. For Buzzcon 2013, a bunch of us got together in the hotel lobby the night before over some beers and we had a great time hanging out. Are there any plans for doing the same in Vegas?

@daku7 - I think it would be best to come in the night before. Should be very similar format to last year. As far as staying until Sunday, I'm sure there will be some that hang out like last year. Hope that helps.

Wow, looks like you have to be a successful app maker to attend this event and fly out. $400 - $1,200 for flight plus $795- $995 sounds like some serious cash to learn coding. Im sure its more than just that. And yes, there should be a live stream. Maybe charge for that too. Looks like I need to get some serious cash to participate in anything involved with buzztouch. One day... One day :)

@Moestress, although I understand what you mean, I think what you said may be a little off on the information :-) "Wow, looks like you have to be a successful app maker to attend this event and fly out. $400 - $1,200 for flight plus $795- $995 sounds like some serious cash to learn coding." No need to be a successful app maker, but yes, you do need to be able to pay for the event, flights and hotel, which can sometimes rack up a pretty penny. But don't think of it as losing money, or even payment, think of it as a lifetime investment that will most definitely be far more rewarding than the loss of monetary value. Money can always be made back, knowledge is far more valuable. This event, and many buzztouch events, give you personal connections, friendships, education and information that will last a lifetime. I would just say that $1500 or so (average of what you said above) is nowhere near "serious cash to learn coding". (Have you checked on how much it costs to learn coding the conventional educational way via a university or college?) I could make that back in a day with the code I will learn from buzzcon, let alone, with future clients and projects. One most important thing to note @Moestress: don't undervalue what learning to code will bring you in your future, both financially and more. You will have to trust me on this one. "Looks like I need to get some serious cash to participate in anything involved with buzztouch." Actually, buzztouch provides a ton of services for free - not to mention all kinds of cool discounts, goodies, codes, webinars, live events, and more. Take a look around, you'll be surprised at how far you could go here without being a member. Then, when you want to make the jump, the price to become a buzztouch member is extremely economical, not to mention, undervalued. I would highly suggest you check out some of the member benefits, not to mention the huge plugin discounts that come along with it and re-value if it's worth it or not :-) No need for serious cash either way, most folks here would tend to agree that what we pay to buzztouch is far less than what we all think it's worth. So with that said, I have a good friend @MacApple that may be able to make your transition a more smooth one... I hope to see that badge on you soon! (and perhaps, at the next event?) :-) Cheers friend! David

@moestress - I understand your feelings about the cost of Code Camp. It is a departure from virtually all of our other offerings, which have been (and will be) free of charge. We do believe Code Camp is a different experience - over 40 hours of intense, highly interactive education over five days - and as such, we really believe it is a valuable investment. The content we generate from Code Camp will provide a ton of educational material for the community, and the basis for other Code Camp-type events. And, I couldn't have said it any better than @MrDavid regarding the available resources, community, membership, and the value available to you through Buzztouch. If you do get a chance to attend Buzzcon or a BuzzDay type gathering, I'd encourage you to do it. Welcome aboard! Warren

I agree with the comments above - these events are rich and informative bonding and networking experiences, well worth the expenses incurred - and tax deductible for USA!

So excited about Buzzcon this year. People like the two gents above, David, Stephen (me!), PSMDanny et al will all be there, good times. Some superb replies above, Warren and MrDavid make some killer points that have me itching for April. A minute spent with these guys is worth it's weight in gold. Warren is a darling and as memorable as anyone on here. He's my first meet up man on BT, eternally thankful to him. MrDavid a young Mark Cuban (not really but let's tell him that!) Book is a genius. The community is second to none. Come to Vegas. Do it, come to Vegas. If not, no hassle, meet ups go on all the time. Fire one up in your area. Where is Sherman Oaks? Forget the cash, loads of folk on here that started off further down the hill than you and with less help and are now doing nothing but BT built apps to make a living. Forget the figures you see above, be thankful others are attending if you can't because you'll feel the love, you'll get the scoop, the videos and what not. One of you on this thread has mail.

Lol - thanks MacApple... But it's the truth, folks - business related travel, such as seminars and conventions, ARE indeed tax deductible. Keep your receipts, and as for meals and expenses, check out the GSA Per Diem website, they give reasonable expectations for what the tax man will allow per day. Hotel is deductible, as is rental car and gas to fill it up and return it, and if you are paying for the Code Camp - that's deductible as an educational expense for your business. You can also purchase your computers and depreciate them over a few years for tax purposes - or if they are cheapo refurbs (my fave), you can outright expense it the year of purchase. For those of you that ARE doing this for a living, or are exceeding a quarter of your normally reported income, please consult a CPA/Tax Professional, you CAN get into tax trouble for not paying quarterly tax payments on those additional earnings - be smart, be informed!

Aww you guys are awesome. I didn't intend for this to occur but glad it did. I'm a total new and haven't even published my first app yet, bit everyone here has been a gem to me. Sherman Oaks is in The Los Angeles valley (san Fernando). I do appreciate the enlightenment and encouragement to think outside the numbers. I'll keep my eyes peeled and Maybe one day I'll stop making excuses not to be around some extremely smart and amazing folks...

@touchdownllc - Code Camp applications were closed in January. However, if you would like to be considered for a future Code Camp offering please go ahead and send me a message so we can get your application together.

"Buzzcast Live!" with Chris Robbins is planned for 8 PM Friday night. Informally, lobby meet ups will begin Friday afternoon after Code Camp class ends at about 5 PM. Saturday will start at 10 AM with Chris Robbins doing a tech / coding session, followed by Code Camp graduation, then Rob Woodbridge, and finally David Book.

Great idea: Maybe we make one of those new fangled... what are they called? Those little programs you can run on your phone? Widgets? No, that's not it... Snap ins? No.... Apps! Yeah, that's it. That's what we need! A Buzzcon / Codecamp app! Anyone know anybody that can make apps? That would be sooooo cool!
