When I turn off data on my phone, the URL-based images aren't cached on the menu screens, but they are for HTML and other screen types. Also, when data is on, there are occasional times when a URL-based image will show the wrong image (a duplicate of one of the others). An example of that can be seen below, where the first and last image in the list are the same.
