Self Hosted 2.1.8 Update

We're planning to release the latest self hosted package tomorrow evening (Tuesday eve. on the West Coast). It includes support for.... 1) Push Notifications from your own backend. 2) Live / Design Mode. 3) Updated design / layout (nearly the same as before, a bit more streamlined) 4) Usage map like you're used to seeing in buzztouch.com panels. 5) Usage statistics download. A simple download process to save some usage stats to a text file. These are the stats that power the map. 6) Much much better process for installing and updating plugins. If you choose, you can enter your buzztouch.com login info, then fetch all the plugins from your buzztouch.com control panel and install them in your self hosted panel. Installs and updates are much easier this way and this should save a ton of time for you. 7) Much simpler "Configuration Setup." The current version holds all sorts of configuration settings in the database and you use the settings panel to make changes. This is OK in most cases by problematic in others. 2.1.8 uses the standard config.php file to hold all the configuration settings. This means you can easily make changes to any setting without having to magically understand how the database is setup. This is common in tons of packages. Open the file, make the settings change, save, upload. This will save some folks a ton of headache when they break things without realizing what they broke! LOL. The typical list of bugs and gotchas that always appear. Stamped out a bunch of these over hte last few months. Look for this download in your Account > Self Hosted screen Tuesday PM, West Coast time. When you grab it - BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTALL OR UPDATE DOC. Some things have changed a bit and you'll want to understand what's different before you continue.

Awesome features and goodies to install!! thanks a lot one question has push already been added to the delegate files bt server)? i submitted an app ios on Sunday abd received an email that i have a push entity etc however i had to configure the push certificates etc. if we don't require push should we just comment out those lines or ignore the email from apple all together?

@mysps: Not sure what you're asking. This "delegate files bt server" confused me a bit. If you download a new project it will include some basic changes. Because you already submitted to Apple you won't get these changes. THIS IS OK. The project you compiled, and sent to app, will not have "Live" appended to the request when devices register for push. This is OK. If nothing is passed along (live or design) when the device registers, it defaults to Live. In fact, it's easy to see if devices are registering in your panel..have a look at the Registered Devices screen, you'll see the list. Bottom line: You'll be fine. Nothing that changed will affect the app you submitted, you'll be able to send to devices just like before.

I had done my first-ever self-hosted server installation this past weekend and had noticed difficulties in doing the install. I was getting ready to write a "how-to" document on it. David whispered to wait a wee bit for a new update that will make it much easier. I can't wait to try it. Good thing I have not done too many screens yet. Yeehaw! Thanks, David! -- Niraj

Thanks David - looking forward to all the new stuff! Hope the roll out goes smooth. Anxious to play with the GCM for Android, got some new code that uses it and want to see if I can make the app work with multiple PN services! I've noticed that gcm.jar in new projects I download ;)

How difficult will the update process be if we already have 2.1.7 installed? Do we just overwrite the files via ftp?

OK Gang. 2.1.8 in your control panels as a link. Account > Self Hosted Servers. BE SURE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, and the CHANGE LOG included in the ZIP. For most of you this will be easy. But, some changes that may confuse you if you're updating an existing 2.1.7 install. For folks that are updating (this info is meaningless for new installs)... 1) The config table is no longer used (in the database). Instead, all the config settings are setup in the config.php file. The install (or update) process tries to help you figure these out. 2) Two new tables have been added to your database and some new columns have been added to existing tables. 3) Be sure to upload ALL THE FILES in the project so everything gets overwritten EXCEPT the /files folder. The /files folder is empty is the download so it shouldn't hurt anything if you accidentally upload it. The /install process will update your database and help you create the config.php file. Save bandwidth: You can ignore the CKEditor folder upload - it hasn't changed and takes forever to push to the cloud. LOL. Going to sleep. I expect this to work well. I also expect you guys to find some "bugs" - Ha! d.

Update Process (from 2.1.7): 1. Download 2.1.8 from BT (y'all should know where that is) 2. In the new 2.1.8 folder delete the /files folder (it's empty anyways -- just a safety precaution) 3. Now, Drag and drop the folder contents of the new BT 2.1.8 files into your old install. 4. Change your directory name from 2.1.7 to 2.1.8 if necessary. 5. Now go to "mysite.com/mybtserver_2.1.8/install" 6. Enter DB and other info. 7. Copy/Paste config.php code 8. Login and enjoy. P.S --- I recommend backing up the /files directory. Just installed and all my icons for my apps seemed to disappear.

Hi everybody! I'm still in 2.1.6, didn't update to 2.1.7. Does anybody know if there is any issue (or trick) when updating to 2.1.8 directly from 2.1.6? Thanks for any clue! Jack

Upgraded earlier today. No issues with the process. Did a 2.1.6 to 2.1.8 upgrade. Just went to grab some fresh new sourcecode to start updating some apps. Getting a strange error preventing me from downloading IOS source code. {"result":{"status":"success", "message":"The project was packaged successfully."}} Oops, a PHP error was trapped. File: /BT-server/bt_v15/bt_app/bt_appDownload_AJAX.php Line: 567 Message: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: File exists (I clipped the domain from there) I looked at the .php file and it's this method //copy all the files from the source-ios directory into the BT_plugins folder Anyone else run into this? Android source code no issues. I did verify the /files folder has 755 permissions. Happens with new and old apps.
