demo of new plugin: Vertical Scroller

Here's a demo of the plugin I created today called "Vertical Scroller". It's a cross-platform menu plugin. Waiting on a couple people to test it and also need to update the wording on the control panel talking about the plugin and take some screenshots - then I'll be ready to submit for review :) Note: The auto-scroll function (at the end of the video) is currently for iOS-only. http://youtu.be/LDgCxmc7kjk

Chris, looks really good. I particularly like the header image and the way the icons zoom in. If you are still in development mode, can I suggest one addition that might be the icing on the cake?. Would it be feasible to have a text area to the other side of the menu that you could have some descriptive text that could either be shown with background colour, or on a transparent background that allows the background image to show through (maybe with opacity?). Looking forward to this one. Alan

Alan, it has a transparent background already - the image you see in my demo video is the background image for the screen. I'll look into adding another element there though. Perhaps version 2 will give support for a webview, where you can load a fully stylized html doc! :) Thanks for the suggestion

I have used the existing button menu in vertical scroll in a similar way and added a text as a graphic to help the user, but the ability to have basic text in html to fill a space would be great. Glad you like the idea. Alan

I'm driving to KC today for a meeting which is giving me time to think a bit. How should the extra view be displayed when the vertical menu is center aligned?

Off the top of my head, I would suggest the way to locate an html text window that users may be able to follow is to define the top left of the text box as from an x y co-ordinate ( e.g. where 0, 0 is the top left of the screen) and also allow the definition for the size of the text box. I'll give it some more thought as well. Alan

Well what I mean is, should it be on the left side of the menu or right? Or does it not make sense to have it if the menu is centered? Or does it not make sense to center the menu at all? Should users have tge option? Or should I keep the control panel as clean and simple as possible?

I was originally thinking of the menu being left or right and the text simply being on the other side. This works and fills screen space usefully. My simplistic approach to a user is to say - "if you want to add descriptive text, you can have a box, top left corner is located here". We are then into the sizing of width & height options. As far as the control panel goes, I like extra parameters being in there, I think it helps. So you could have an entry for text box (disabled by default) If the user wants text, I am personally in favour of default parameter values for defining the window location, that can be edited in the CP. Setting up a text box window using margins as a percentage of the available display width might be a way, hard to know until you start to try things, but I'd be happy to play and feed back if you are interested in giving it a go. If the menu is centred, I am not sure where the text would fit in using portrait mode on an iPhone. Landscape and/or iPads bring different opportunities though, text box to the left or right of the buttons has potential. So I would say, just try it and we can see where the impracticalities are. Cheers, Alan
