Buzztouch Is Down for All Apps (Status: Apps Still Down)

Is buzztouch down? Whenever a user of the app opens it they get problem download data, try again?

I think so. I have a couple apps that were created with Buzztouch version 1.4 from a few years ago and I'm getting an error. The error I'm getting says 'Download Error' There was a problem downloading an image. Please check your internet connection then try again. My apps main image is missing. The rest of my app updates fine. Maybe there are issues with Buzztouch's servers right now?

My apps are up, but I just had to login with http instead of https. So something may be up. I sent a text message to David.

That is strange--my apps were never down. The only thing I noticed was that I had to sign in with http instead of https.

David, methinks you need to use the calendar app on your iPhone a bit more lol... For those still having a problem, clear your browser cache and try again. Cheers, Alan

@AppGuy30: The site is not down. I got your "direct" email. I understand your frustrations. The SSL certificate used on the site was invalid for a few hours this morning starting around midnight PST. We have to renew these annually and have done so. Yes, we wait until the last day of the annual term to do this. I'll save the reason why for another post. Anyway, it's renewed and SSL works as expected. It sounds like some or all of your apps are not downloading data. The dataURL your app loads data from is self-configurable in each apps Core Settings, I'll assume it's using the https:// prefix for the app you're talking about. "Having trouble downloading data" is usually an easy diagnosis / fix. Visit the dataURL your app uses, does it load a JSON result? In your browser. If it does, validate it using jsonlin.com - is the JSON valid? If it's not loading JSON then you can continue debugging. Lastly: The "success" you're having (based on the email you sent me) is great. However, if I had an app as successful as the one you mention, you may consider making some contingency plans for when things don't go as expected. This is a good idea regardless of where you're data is coming from. Our backend, your backend, Google, Amazon, whatever. If you have an app "that busy" you surely should have some sort of plan B when something goes awry - simple or otherwise. What's the best way to do this? Sigh.....there are tons and tons of things to consider when dealing with these kinds of engineering questions. What type of data is your app consuming? Where is it now? How often does it change? Should it all be in the app instead of hosted on the network somewhere? Etc, etc. Sounds like a fun exercise :-)

Hi David, Thanks for responding. I also seem to have an affected app. I Visiedt the dataURL my app uses and it did load a JSON result in my browser. I then validated it using jsonlint.com -and the JSON was valid. I made and published insignificant changes on my app header title - and I still have the same error. I still end up getting: "There was a problem downloading some required data. Try Again?" I dunno. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

I don't actually know what I'm talking about here... but in the spirit of being helpful... Whenever I go to Buzztouch.com I am told that there is one or more problems with the certificate the site uses to prove its identity. The actual warning is: 'The certificate to identity www.buzztouch.com has not been verified by a trusted source'

Does this only affect Buzztouch hosted apps? If so then probably good enough reason to go self-hosted!

Hi everybody! There is still some issue indeed but panic will not help. Let's try and give a maximum of informations to David about the problem. I'm self-hosted but I still have an old 1.4 app hosted on BT. I've tried it, modified it, and so on. The control panel works perfectly. The app works, or not, depending on the iOS version. iPhone 3G, iOS 4.2.1 (8C148): the app is OK iPhone 4, iOS 7.1 (11D169): the app is OK iPhone 5, iOS 8.4 (12H143): the app freezes iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1 (12H321): the app freezes iPad 2, iOS 7.1 (11D167): the app is OK iPad Mini, iOS 7.1.1 (11D201): the app is OK Maybe this kind of precise info will help David to find what's gone wrong, please try to be very accurate in your description of the problem! Cheers Jack

when you copy any URL from your buzztouch project/assets/BT_config.txt to the default pc browser then all those URL are working perfectly. then why it's continuously showing error of loading configuration data while running bt apps? it seems very annoying seriously. From last 2 days i got plenty of single starts from lots of users because of this issue. and i don't think it's a good sign. Please sir @david be serious and give us perfect solution because it's seems a really heart killing issue :/

The renewal of certificate seems to have failed: -------------------- This Connection is Untrusted You have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.buzztouch.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure. Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do? If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue. www.buzztouch.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) -----------------

I'm sat in the UK and also have several Apps that are affected (all the ones hosted here) - all on refresh and then the App's are effectively dead "There was a problem downloading some required data. Try Again?" I see seem to see this issue regardless of iOS version - I haven't checked my Android versions yet but assume these will have the same issue?

Quick fix: In your BT_config.txt change "dataURL":"https" to "dataURL":"http". Your basically just getting rid of the s. This will allow for you to view your app in xcode. But we still need the big fix from david. This is just for short term.

@AppGuy30 - I dont believe that is any good for me as I have Apps published on iTunes and Google. Unless I am forced to upload a new version, wait for review - I suspect this would be fixed before the app update(s) were approved? The HTTPS string loads without issue in a browser and JSON is valid - but live apps that refresh are hitting the issue. I have tried changing the CORE properties here in the CP to http - that doesn't work either. Not sure how to progress to be honest.

I think if your apps are important you should have a serious look at Self-hosted for full members and none. If your business relies on 100% uptime hosting your own config data is the best way to go! I'm sure all will be resolved, dns on this type of thing could take 24-48hrs to propagate. Patience is key :)

Ahhhhh the joys of being self-hosted #3820.... :-) Wishing everyone gets their problems solved soon... In the meantime, if you want a solution now, or want to prevent issues later: become a BT Member, grab the self-hosted package, and start moving your apps over. If you need hosting, grab Hostgator.com, if you need a domain, use Namecheap.com. BT Hosted is great to start and play around, learn, etc, but if you're serious about app making or your project, becoming a member and becoming BT Self-Hosted is the most powerful move you can make with Buzztouch. Cheers! mrDavid

By the way, as an interim fix - it appear you can get the app going using the following steps: 1. Set the device's airplane mode to ON 2. Open the application 3. Set the device's airplane mode to OFF 4. Do not hit the refresh button. By the way, I've had quite a few people send me angry emails about how my app is broken. I've used the opportunity to provide rapid responses and promised to send them some free copies of the app. More often than not they've generally turned their attitude around once they were reassured and offered to write good reviews once this is fixed. Might be an opportunity.

You're soooo right, mrDavid! --- Moreover, apart from the small yearly fee for being a BT-member and the hosting and DN fees (which are 'normal' expenses for any serious project), the self-hosted BT-server is totally FREE! --- Free services are OK but they are never guaranteed. 100% uptime has a cost. And BTW the BT-member fee helps BT to exist and keep a 99.8 or 99.9% uptime. One should never forget this. Cheers Jack
