Buzzday San Diego 2014 : Ed Reyes Presentation

Happy Sunday everyone! My first time presenting to a Buzztouch audience. I wasn't really expecting to present anything since this was Niraj's idea. So just like him I just winged it. Two must have's in my App Designing/Development workflow is a Photoshop Add On called devRocket and the best all-in-one multiple features App Prototyping tool called AppCooker and its App Viewer called App Taster. These are both less than $20, but so worth it as you watch the product videos from the links below. ~Enjoy Ed SEGMENT 01 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJr1w-COYOo&hd=1 SEGMENT 02 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN2aSjezANc&hd=1 SEGMENT 03 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5CoapzgX18&hd=1 SEGMENT 04 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwQAG6udFPo&hd=1 WORKFLOW TOOLS: Photoshop Add On: devRocket - http://devrocket.uiparade.com/ iPad App: http://www.appcooker.com/

As the recipient of Ed's design work, the Dev Rocket and AppCooker and AppTaster were absolutely essential for the flow between the Designer (Ed) and the Developer (Niraj -- me). Thanks again, Ed, it is a good collaboration with many more to come! :-) -- Niraj

Yup I've been on Appcooker for a few yrs now... It's still amazing..but I still wish for a few features... like scrolling tables :) But I love to mock up an app in it...until I realize I'm spending too much time mocking vs building. ok I'm off to watch Ed's sessions now

@Uelsimon, yup mocking vs building. If I were doing both designing and developing. I'd already have the mockup straight in Photoshop. As a first time collaboration with another developer, it served it's purpose. AppCooker+AppTaster is a much better combination in being able to send the client a mockup for App approval. It's better than doing a power point, slideshow or screenshots. At least they can have a more interactive session demoing the App. For those that weren't at the Show and Tell Webinar last Wed, I'm working on the App Video Now to showcase the finished product for the App Store.

My favorite part of the video was Niraj saying in the background 'I'd rather have my designer do all the work than trying to do it all in code ... and Ed saying 'yeah, having me do 20 hours of work!'. Lol. Would take me a heck of a lot longer to do that type of design. Ed's got some skilz. Thanks for the share - will have to check out that Photoshop plugin.

AppCooker is a good tool for somebody who knows how to sling PhotoShop. It is meant for designs that are nearly done. AppCooker https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/appcooker-mockup-prototype/id418861662?mt=8 ------------ Blueprint is a good tool for somebody who is NOT a designer and wants to simply use the built-in UI controls provided by iOS. It is meant for establishing Information Architecture (Content, Navigation and Structure). Blueprint Lite (free) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blueprint-lite-ios-mockup/id407188253?mt=8 Blueprint ($20) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blueprint-ios-mockup/id405203705?mt=8 Blueprint Viewer (free) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blueprint-lite-ios-mockup/id407188253?mt=8 ------------ A free competitor to Blueprint is iMockApp. I still prefer Blueprint because of the free Blueprint Viewer (and I grew-up with Blueprint). Since it was last updated in June-2013, I'm not sure if it works well with iOS 7 on the iPad. iMockApp (free) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imockapp/id588325430?mt=8 ------------- Anyhow ... there is more than one way to skin a cat. I like the way Ed skinned this one! :-) -- Niraj

Actually, Appcooker beats Blueprint + iMockapp IMO. Using Appcooker for placing PS images is using only 2% of what it does. You have total Native UI elements to place and play with. I usually do my wires in it, before design begins so i can decide which plugins I'd use (even mosaic) The transitions definitely help add some magic... but its everything else why i love the app and been part of their beta review team since the beginning. for a better idea of what they do...skip the iTunes page..and check em out at home http://www.appcooker.com

You have Designers and Developers or in my case Designovelopers, yea I made that up. In either case whatever the user is comfortable in using to achieve whatever goals they have for their App Development. I've tested alot free and paid and you get more bang for the buck with AppCooker. You get what you pay for with free products, there's always an upsell somewhere. There's a big difference in selling a client your idea for their App you're building them. 100% of my clients don't care about how I build anything, they want to fall in love with the look then comes the functionality. There's an emotional response that get's triggered when the client knows you're the person to solve their problem or help them achieve their goals. Or best their competition. Here's an example my long time client tells me Ed I want our old flash (i did in 2007) site to be better than my competition's site. It needs to be mobile responsive and not flash, which doesn't work for their sales team using ipads. My Project: Competition: http://xsurfaces.com Challenge: 7 day build go above and beyond client expectations. I just finished last night. Result: http://parquetbydian.net/v2/ Goal accomplished now I've been asked to come up with an iPad App so that the Interior Designers can utilize my clients flooring products as virtual swatches after providing a panoramic image using iOS7 camera features. Since I studied Architecture and Autocad and 3D animation this is gonna be cool. They already like my App Mockup in Appcooker, because of my NDA, I can't share that yet. It's not even built yet but the imagery I provide them get's them so worked up that it just opens doors for me to secure more high end clients in any industry. By far one of my most impressive high end sites I've built. Hopefully they will hook me up with a cool suite with one of their Las Vegas casino clients. If they do comp me, party at my place in April Buzzcon. A house is a house, a car is a car they both serve their functions, but in the end, you pick what you are emotionally and visually drawn to, and using these tools will help get you there. Hope this helps draw some ideas or inspires you as well. If I can do it, so can you. Sounds like a late night infomercial statement.

Wow Niraj! I am speechless. Looks like I am going to need to add more credit to my Buzztouch account.
