Shoutcast and Icecast stream in Android/IOS Apps

Do I need to have both Shoutcast and Icecast in order to stream Android/IOS Apps. I have a Shoutcast station and I created my first app but when I put the url for the page with the player in the custom url screen, the flash player comes up but there is no sound. Can anyone help? Is there a simple solution?

Android does not support flash for newer devices above 4.0 (ICS). So if you are trying to add a url which has flash player, it wont work on android. Since you have created your own stream on shoutcast, you might be having a port 80 link of your stream. It generally looks like this one- http://50.117.8.242:7517/Live (this is just an example). You can stream this link on android devices (all os versions) using a plugin which is available in the plugin market. Name of the plugin is CP Stream and you can find more information about that plugin and also grab it from here- http://www.buzztouch.com/plugins/plugin.php?pid=5A9F0BFC5A553FEC4BBD839 I am not so sure about iOS but another plugin named Stream Audio is available in the market for iOS only. Check that plugin too from this link- http://www.buzztouch.com/plugins/plugin.php?pid=FA7AC4F6944FF2491FCE8AD

Sorry it took me a while to get back. @LA: I already have the station streaming Shoutcast and I built an app for the station that links to the page with the player. In the app, the page comes up, I can see the player but there is no sound. @Sandeep: What happens if I purchase the plugins but they don't work? Do you know of any apps that currently use these plugins that I can test?

I have checked the CP Stream plugin myself on my friends self hosted bt cp. I checked this plugin using the above station link (which is a shoutcast station) and it works perfectly on android device. The users can listen to your radio station and when they click back button, it will keep running even in the background. More over when you receive a call the app pauses and after the call is ended, the radio stream resumes with this plugin. If you ask me, this is perfect plugin for your need. However, i dont know any android app created with this plugin. The app my friend is creating has links to mp3 files on some random websites but this app is still in progress. If you have any doubts, you should ask the plugin developer, probably he might clear your doubts completely.

Hi, still need help. I purchased the plugin it doesn't seem to work for me. In the filepath of the plugin I entered http://stereo.wavestreamer.com:7140/; which is my stream url. I get an error that says error loading screen? The application had trouble understanding what to display. Can you tell me if I'm doing something wrong? The example on the plugin is: http://www.mymediaapps.com/mp3/Martyrs/Martyrs2/3.mp3 Does this mean the file path must end with .mp3? If so then I would have purchased this plugin in vain since this is a radio stream?

No, you have made correct purchase. I think you have missed something while setting up the plugin in your project. Read the plugin details and add the required snippets in the manifest file. Also the error you are getting which says error loading screen suggests that you have not linked the plugin screen in your menu list items.

I've just setup an Android app for a local radio station using streaming. I chose the CP Stream, and haven't had any major issues so far. My URL is like http://www.streamprovider.com/live and it works just fine. Although I understand not 'all' streams work, but this is an icecast, if I'm not mistaken. Find and implement Sandeep's fix between the WIFI/MOBILE net detection, and other than appearance, that's the only fix I had to do. Cheers! -- Smug
