Is push dead? Of course not.

Interesting read and something many of us do already with various 3rd party SDKs. http://www.mobilemarketer.com/cms/news/content/15978.html

Mac, that was an interesting read and now I'm going to look at Scringos in app push, especially as I have struggled to get push working in the past. Great article.

Nice one! Some food for thought and Scringo a great way to achieve the above

Interesting article! I think it's really app dependent though. I use push for my softball apps, to do things like notify everybody about cancelled games or registration dates and the like. Very infrequently messages, and generally sent mid-day. It's an app that gets some use during the season, but no so much off-season. So, in-app messaging has its place, but is not the best choice for general communications. Another app I have is designed to be used every single day (and I hope it is!). In this instance, in-app messaging would be FAR more effective than any push notification (which, in general, is likely never to be used for this app). So, at least in my case, it's worth taking some time to understand the audience, the intended use patterns of the app, and then make the appropriate decision. Great article, and lots of food for thought! Mark

Good point about in-app messaging versus push notifications. The In-App Messaging is easy to achieve with BuzzTouch. Make a menu screen that uses a data URL. Then the contents of that menu will always be retrieved with the freshest batch of messages for that and for that user. No need to rely upon an external SDK. For the savvy web developer, whip-up a simple web app backed by a database. At the worst case, hand-code a JSON data file and plop it onto a web server. What y'all think? :-) -- Niraj
