Error Installing ADT Plugin for Eclipse

Please see question at bottom of post. Thanks in advance for your help. I am following along with buzztouch for Android - A User's Guide by GoNorthWest, June 2012. I am in Chapter 5 on page 30. I am using the following installation components on Windows 8 PRO: o eclipse-SDK-4.2.2-win32.zip o jdk-7u17-windows-i586.exe o installer_r21.1-windows.exe In Eclipse SDK, under Help > Install new software... Add repository: Name: Eclipse ADT Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse Choose: [X] Developer Tools [X] Android DDMS 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 [X] Android Development Tools 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 [X] Android Hierarchy Viewer 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 [X] Android Traceview 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 [X] Tracer for OpenGL ES21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 Next > Installation Details: (X) The operation cannot be completed. See the details. Details: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: Android Development Tools 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685) Missing requirement: Android Development Tools 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 21.1.0.v201302060044-569685) requires 'org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0' but it could not be found Question: How do I find and install: org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0

Did you get the Android SDK or did you download from Eclipse web? http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html Cheers! Frogman

@Frogman -- I used the location given in your link. I downloaded the SDK tools for Windows (under USE AN EXISTING IDE), as suggested in the User's Guide I cited. I did not download the ADT bundle for Windows. That file, adt-bundle-windows-x86-20130219.zip, is not discussed in the User's Guide.

Aha -- I have found the answer to my question: For Eclipse Juno releases (such as Eclipse 4.4.2) one must also add the following under Help > Install new software... Name: Juno Location: http://download.eclipse.org/releases/juno and then proceed according to the User's Guide. My experience was that you only need to select the Eclipse ADT site and then choose all the options under Developer Tools and then click Next >. The install will automatically find the needed org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0 without you having to look for it or select it. Whew! That was a relief :-)

This might help. If not, yell. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4249695/adt-requires-org-eclipse-wst-sse-core-0-0-0-but-it-could-not-be-found Cheers! -- Smug (just noticed you fixed your issue. Cool! Glad you're back up and running!)

Howdy, I have some videos on how to install the new Eclipse ADT Bundle, which is way easier than the older stuff they have. It's just a download and an unzip! Check my YouTube channel out...there's videos for each OS: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoNorthWest/videos?flow=grid&view=0 Mark

Mark, I watched the video for the Windows 8 install. Very nice! I saw that David Book mentioned the ADT bundle install in the intro videos in buzztouch U. However, the PDFs go through the Eclipse-JDK-ADT, three-part install. This is an unnecessary discrepancy. I have no problem with things being necessarily difficult -- bring it on! What I don't like is unnecessary difficulty. In the interest of simplicity, there should be one single developer tool install guide and video that is kept up to date for new members. That's my suggestion. Gene

Hi Gene, I'm glad the videos helped get you on track...that's the most important thing! I agree the PDF is a bit out of date, though at the time I wrote it, it was extremely relevant, and made the process much, much simpler for people! At that time, the three step method was the only way to get things installed. I have it in my plan to update the document to reflect the new ADT Bundle, which is far, far easier, as you've discovered. Just gotta carve out some time to get it done. Mark

Your videos and PDFs are wonderful and well appreciated! I know that there are only 24 hours in a day. My apologies if I seemed to be critical of you -- that wasn't my intention at all. My only point is that I think buzztouch, as an organization, could be more linear and direct in its materials. You are only one person and you, alone, can't do everything. Thanks again for all you do.

Gene, definetely it is important to streamline communication within Buzztouch, it is a question on what to do and how to do. I guess that we all are somehow getting to the limits of a community project, due to rapid growth of it. The good part is that Mark and other people are out there when we need help. The bad part is that sometimes there is nobody available, or everyone who is available does not have a clue. It is somehow inherited in the nature of any community project. If you have a chance to go to Get-together in St.Louis, it would make sense to discuss it. I believe that David @ buzztouch and the gang are open to any topic that will help improve things. On the other hand look at how much good material is available in Buzztouch. I never tripped over a better source of information. I used to work for a big US medical technology company with very good inside and outside support and can tell you that Buzztouch has better SOP´s and better "customer support" available. There are so many unanswered questions out there in constantly changing environment... Cheers! Frogman

I'd love to meet-up in St. Louis, but my schedule won't permit it. BTW, my wife is from across the river in Collinsville, IL (that's the town with the giant ketchup bottle water tower :-)) One quick win would be incorporating Mark's videos into the buzztouch site so that newbies have a bullet-proof, get-up-and-running method. Then, segue into David's videos which are more conceptual. An interesting observation: in the 5 buzztouch Learning Path videos and the 9 Android Learning Path videos, unless I missed it, it doesn't actually show how to import a buzztouch project into Eclipse. Doing this is mentioned and it _is_ shown how to create an Android project from scratch within Eclipse. However, Mark does a great job of showing this in one of his videos, and also shows that you must manually change from Android 2.2 to Goggle 2.2 API in the project properties. I had to figure this out for myself before Mark pointed out the existence of his excellent videos to me. So, to me, the issue is not the knowledge, hard work, and productivity of buzztouch members -- rather, it is how the process of moving all this great information into the buzztouch website is managed. I don't think that useful nuggets of information should only be disseminated in the forums and remain there. From time to time, at certain key time horizons, it needs to be organized and incorporated into the introductory training presented to newcomers.

It's all good! Everybody at buzztouch - those on the official team, and lots of others - are working super hard to keep things current and make it as easy as possible for people to get started. As with any technology, things change on a dime, so there is a bit of a lag from time to time. But eventually a great workflow will get established, and things will be good for everybody. Again, Welcome to buzztouch! Mark

Mark, I agree with your comments. Also, a great thanks is due to you and everyone else. A short while ago, I finished reviewing some of your videos and David's videos. I am now looking at an Android Virtual Device running the Monterey Harbor project harbor location map in all its full glory. Google Map v.1 API key works like a charm. Thanks again, and Happy St. Patrick's day to all. Gene
