Updated app not loading on 1st gen iPads

I released an update to my app about a week ago and have gotten three emails from users with iPad 1's saying the updated app won't load. They all say their software is up to date but after some digging I've found that they can't update to ios 6.0. My target though is set at 4.3. My valid architectures are armv7 and armv7s but I chose "no" for "build valid architecture only". The three main changes I made with this update are: 1. added socialize action bar 2. added appirater files 3. made my home screem into a custom xib button menu From what I can tell all of these are compatible with the earlier iPad. Any thoughts? Any similar experiences?? Josh

At least looking at this it looks like all iPads support armv7, esp if target set to 4.3 or later. http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/LanguagesUtilities/Conceptual/iTunesConnect_Guide/B_DeviceCompatibilityMatrix/DeviceCompatibilityMatrix.html I guess it can't hurt to add armv6 just in case. Anyone else have any ideas?

I can test this on my iPad 1, but I wont be updating, rather downloading the app fresh. But if you gave me the link, I will happily have a go and see what happens.

Annadale apps has confirmed the problem with 1st gen iPads... "So far not good. I open the app and a black screen comes up and quits after two seconds. I have tried completely quitting and opening, but still it doesn't load. I have tried a few times now." mysps has had the same problem. I guess I can send off an update adding the armv6 architecture but don't think that's going to do the trick. Am I missing something???

I think I may have this same problem - had a couple of reports of this after my update. Would be keen to know if you can solve this, why do you think adding armv6 wont fix it? Also anyone with iPad 1 able to test for me? Thanks.

I don't think adding armv6 will fix it because according to the link I posted above first gen iPads support armv7 so it shouldn't make a difference.

@baywebnz - I can test your app for you if you wish. Just give me a BT message to me and I'll happily test it out. I think that this issue maybe because the iPad 1 now doesn't support the latest iOS. And even in earlier iOS software, it never had the full potential. It doesn't have AirPlay mirroring for instance. I think that this issue is due to the 'Base iOS'. Normally, you would leave it on the latest iOS, but you could put it to iOS 5.1.1 to try it out, and I'll test it out as well.

Xcode doesn't even let me put base iOS to anything besides 6.0. But I thought the whole point of the iOS deployment target was to indicate the earliest SDK my app supports, and that is set at 4.3. All the first gen iPads I've tried are up to 5.1.1. Argh

Annandale, Do you have any of your apps you could try loading to your iPad 1 with newest xcode to 1) see if it crashes and 2) see what the console shows???

Well I'm not making iPad apps right now. I'm only creating iPhone apps. However, I will start making one in a few months time!
