Login info (self hosted)

I'm trying to login on my self hosted server in my browser.

I've installed the software (3.0) on my server, set up database, etc... But I am unable to do the final step - logging in. I use my login for buzztouch.com, right? It keeps saying "login failed." When I ask for a password reminder, it says "Your login information could not be located. Are you sure you entered the correct email address?" I am sure.

So two things: (1) I don't know if I correctly created the database witha collation of utf8_unicode_ci as I didn't see any place to set the collation.
(2) I haven't yet become a member as I wanted to set it up first. The instructions seem to be that you can set it up, login, and then become a member and get API after, but I'm not sure.

Is it either of those two things that's preventing me from logging in?

(Regardless, do I need to fix the collation issue?) Thank you.

ohhhhhh. i thought those were just examples/placeholders.

OK. I did that and got logged in, but when I click any of the choices (account, admin or control panel), it takes me to an Error 404 page for my main website. For all 3 it takes me to: http://mywebsite/buzztouch/YOUR_APP_URL/admin/ But it's not anything to do with buzztouch, it's my website w/ a nonexistent page.

Thank you for help Dave. I'm getting there, but still have this new issue...

in your config.php, your paths should look like this

/* application URL. Do not enter the trailing slash (/) after any URL. */
define("APP_URL", "https://yoururl.com/BT-server"); or however you set it up

/* application physical path on server, data directories. *
/*These begin with a forward slash (/). Do not enter the trailing slash (/) */
define("APP_PHYSICAL_PATH", "/home4/*******/public_html/BT-server"); or however you set it up
define("APP_DATA_DIRECTORY", "/files"); dont change these
define("APP_THEME_PATH", "/files/theme"); dont change these

OK. That was helpful. I think it's working, with one exception:

When I click on "Show my account control panel" it goes to https://MYURL/buzztouch//account which gets an error message ("an error occurred during a connection to georgiagreenguide.com. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)")

But when I click on "Jon's account" it takes me to "http://MYURL/buzztouch/account/" and it seems to work, but i dont know if its the control panel or not. It says its the accounts home screen, but the url is so simliar - are they supposed to be different?

(I'm could have other issues in my config_php file. I've only changed the first half of the values through "physical path."

Thank you again so much...jb

So I joined up, and created a new app and created a home screen, but when I click on the scree I get the same error message as above:

An error occurred during a connection to georgiagreenguide.com. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

I get the same message when I click on my control panel. I assume there's still something I've done wrong in installation? Thx

Thanks for your help Calypso. So I wound up getting to to work with some help from my ISP. They said that I don't have SSL installed so I should change the application URL - define("APP_URL") to http rather than https, which I did and it worked.

I hope that's not going to be a problem??

They said I can also get SSL, but I haven't gotten around to that yet and wasn't sure how and whether that would be the right thing and how it would effect other things, etc.....

Anyway, appreciate the help. Hope alls well in upstate NY.

Not having an SSL is not a bad thing unless you are collecting payments through your site. I use one "just because". It's an added cost but if I do start selling through my site, I'll have it. It also makes the more tech savvy visitors to your site feel a little better when they see the https and the little lock symbol. It kind of adds a bit of legitimacy to the site.
All is well up here, thanks. Just for the record, I'm still learning too. The only reason that I knew the answer to your problem was because I just went through the same thing a few weeks ago and this forum helped me through it. Pay it forward I guess. ;-)

Happy Holidays

Thanks Dave. I look forward to the time I can pay it forward myself. Happy Holidays.
