New v1.4 and v1.5 Apps Dicsontinued

We will no longer be allowing any new v1.4 or v1.5 apps to be created after October 1, 2012 We realize that this may cause some stress for some users but it should not cause any inconvenience. I say this because we've recommended folks use the latest v2.0 interface for many months now and existing v1.4 and v1.5 control panels will continue to work. There are countless reasons for this. The biggest....the code base in older v1.4 and v1.5 projects is significantly outdated and causes all sorts of problems when considering recent changes to the iOS SDK and Xcode, the latest version of iOS on the device (iOS 6) and the unsupported methods in Android. There are few screen types that you "could" create in older buzztouch versions that are unavailable on the latest version. There are some but we suspect that it won't be long until all the "old" screens types, along with many more new ones will be available as plugins in the near future.

Knew this would happen eventually! Good thing I've been self-hosted since.. forever. If you didn't do this, I could imagine the work and time it would take to keep every single version of buzztouch up-to-date with every single new release - crazy. Cheers, David buzztouchmods.com

I think this is a good thing. The temptation to use one of the older versions of buzztouch is just too great, and I think it'll force the developer community to accelerate plugin development for v2.0. "Keep moving forward," as they say in a certain movie!

Good decision, David! Last thing we all need you to do is spend time on old versions. Onward and upward!

NOOOOOOOO! haha just kidding :P The only thing I will miss is the image upload screen, but I'm sure that will be added to the market eventually. I have been getting more into 2.0 lately and I'm definitely excited to see what kind of plugins become available in the future. Plus I guess 1.5 is more useless than ever now since it will never be updated to support the 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5

Will we be able to upgrade our 1.5 apps without having to rebuild them in v2.0

@Annandale Apps: The comments I'm posting here were also posted here: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=BED53FC230ADDE63130A8B7 Apple's decides if older, existing apps will run on iOS 6. I suspect they will run fine but not as good as they could? Just hunch. Every new operating system release brings new features, functions, and options for app owners and phone users. The highest quality apps and the most successful app owners will embrace these changes and update their apps accordingly. Depending on the nature of the app and the expectations of end users, it may be worth it to implement some changes, it may not. Tough to say. There isn't a "copy app design to upgrade from lower versions to the current one" for a bunch of reasons. Several folks (including us) have tried to implement something like this in the past but it's never worked well and always caused more troubles and questions, and issues that it was worth. This challenge is not related to the way iOS works, it's related to all sorts of options that you may or may not be using in your control panels, the relationship between each type of screen (now called plugins) and the differences in how v1.4, v1.5, and v2.0 are assembled. In some ways they are very similar, in others, very different.

Sorry for posting on two threads. I did read the post on the other thread just about ten minutes ago. I just thought I should repost it because this thread is a bit on the topic than the other thread.

This news makes that new plugin we're working on that much more critical for me :)

Good move. I have used version 2.0 in couple of my apps and its definitely better than 1.5. Plugin developers are going to make 2.0 even better than the 1.5.
