Converting .mov files to .mp4

Hi all, I need to convert 60 .mov files to .mp4 for an Android version of an iOS app I made last month. I am using Zamzar free online file converter. Is this the best way, or can anyone recommend a better approach? Thank you!

I would just open the .mov file in Quicktime, then export it as a different file.

I just remembered that I used to use a program called MPEG Streamclip. I don't know if they support the .mov files though. http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

I think Kittsy has cracked this one, as always! I might have a look at handbrake too. Kittsy to the rescue.

Now, after all the forum excitement, I better continue with my flatpack IKEA cabinet.

Handbrake… yay! that sounds like the business… thanks @kittsy. @Thomas - I’m guessing the flatpack is way more fun!! ;-) @EdReyes - thanks for the tip re output file. I guess I could have made the files in an Android compatible version off the bat. It’s just that I had no intention of going down the Android route with this app but now I’m getting a lot of requests for it on the app's Facebook page, so I’m going to go for it…. me thinks it’s going to be a late night!!!!

Ran into the same problem on my first Android project. Streamclip works well. Adobe Media Encoder (free trial available) works best if you have a batch to convert. Add your files / select conversion once / select where to file conversions / press run. Go have coffee.

Good luck with this Android Project! I will [probably] always remain an iOS developer, and to prove that, I will only allow myself to have two stars!

Wow! handbrake is actually super-quick too! Made a discovery tonight - thanks guys. @Thomas there probably isn’t enough space for all the stars you should have!! P.S. why do you have David in your profile pic with you? Is that an age thing, like a legal requirement? Or is it just because you love the guy like the rest of us? ;-)

I just admire the legend! How did your New York thing go? It must have been exciting to see David once more!

@Thomas. Got it. I’ll have to have one of those photos done too in that case ;-) The NY visit went well. Another nice bunch of folks. Different in the sense that the group didn’t know each other as well as maybe the Oxford folks did. I was pretty zonked so did more listening than talking. In any case, David did most of the talking and as usual, everyone hung on his every last word! Great to meet @mysps… funny when she stood up… Sil is so tall, it was of course obvious that she was also a professional basketball player! We talked about doing a Spanish meet up in December…maybe we will...watch this space.. Everybody so loves Buzztouch, that was obvious. @feraco voiced a thought which I think we all echo and that is, if we can help in anyway to grow/support the BT business, David and co. just need to shout! @kittsy… Hand brake’s my latest new discovery! I love how fast it is.

@Dervalo... We need to meet up sometime again. In the meantime, I hope to promote the Buzztouch community in a TED Talks I am going to be holding. I am currently in the midst of thinking up what to say and what the theme shall be, although I am already in contact with TED organisers. I'm hoping for somewhere in London, however, it is proving harder than I think.

Oh well, if it’s not London, it could be somewhere further afield and exotic!!! No harm. There is life beyond London/England you know ;-) LOL!! Either way, I think it will be a fabulous experience if you can get the opportunity to talk at TED and if I can help out/support you anyway, just let me know!!! I believe they do a pretty good job on preparing you for it anyway.

London is only going to be my favourite city (for now). London has everything. It also has proper Apple stores, unlike Oxford. Last week, I went to London just to get a Magic Trackpad. I could have done that in Oxford, but the experience isn't the same, and what's more, I got a good day out (and also had a coffee with a Buzztouch friend). If I would do a TED thingy, it would be London, for sure.

Sure… you’re talking about Apple Stores… all good ;-) Should have seen the ones in NYC. Massive!! and five of them: Soho, 5th Avenue, Grand Central, Upper West Side and West 14th Street. Here I need to travel 90 mins in the car to the south of Milan or else go to Switzerland - crazy!! (iPhone 5s on sale for $199, with a US carrier contract of course. nice though)

What's getting started here - an "add David to your avatar contest" - LOL. Thanks for the kudo's guys, much appreciated. Like @Dervalo mentioned, NYC was awesome. I was starting to wonder about the NYC crowd as they've been rather quite and small recently. There are zillions of New Yorkers, where they heck are they on Buzztouch? Funny. Careful when thinking of adding my avatar to yours - ya never know what may come of it! Ha.
