Important changes coming March 3rd

Hi gang. As many of you know, we've been working hard to make some necessary changes to the core source code files included in all of your project downloads. This effort started when iOS 6 and the latest version of Xcode (4.6) was released. This version of iOS and Xcode required more changes than we expected - none of them complicated - all of them tedious. Lots of discussion has been going on in this thread about this topic: https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=95E5CFBABD86B30C8EE6DEF We'll be turning off the download server on March 3rd for a few hours while we update hundreds of files. When the download server is made available again, project downloads will no longer show warnings and errors when compiling in Xcode 4.6 for iOS 6. iOS and Android core source code files will be different after March 3rd. All plugin package source code files will be different after March 3rd. We've had to update all the iOS plugin files to accomodate this most recent release of Xcode. This means if you're self hosting your control panel you WILL need to update the plugins on your install after March 3rd. If you don't update the plugins in your install, you will see errors and warnings in project downloads. ############# IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT ANDROID PROJECTS ############# We decided that combining an Android update with an iOS update made sense. After March 3rd, ANDROID PROJECTS WILL NEED TO BE COMPILED USING Google API's 3.0 (this is API Level 11). This means the emulators you've setup in your Eclipse environment will need to be updated to use the proper API level's when working with a project you download after March 3rd. We're moving your projects to Android 3.0 for a bunch of reason. 3.0 allows additional functionality for all of us and will make it easier for plugin developers to add additional functionality to your projects. This update is also necessary to support the newest version of Google Maps. Android 3.0 is supported on the a very high percentage of devices so you should not see a decrease is downloads or worry to much about folks using a device running an Android version pre 3.0.

Rock on! Glad you posted this today...was just getting ready to package things up for both iOS and Android app (new version of OVFPS). Now I'll wait, update the code on 3/3, and then upload some sweetness to the store! Thanks for your super hard work on this David!

@Georgios: "So after this we have to redownload all the plugins and upload them to our server right? " If you're running the latest self hosted package, all you have to do is "udpate" the plugins using the control panel (one click). The older versions of the self hosted package required you to upload FTP packages one by one. The latest version allows you to update a plugin with a simple click from the admin screen. Neato. But, you have this right, you will want to make sure all the plugins are updated on your self hosted panel after March 3rd. You'll see the newly updated version numbers for each one in the market when this happens. It's not the end of the world if you don't do this but for sure you'll have some syntax warnings and compiler messages if you continue to use the old ones.

Big news for sure. Will this have a big affect those us using older versions of Xcode? I know when I add a project into 4.2 I've got a handful of files to mod and code to comment out before I can compile. Are we going to still be able to build new BT project source with 4.2... or do I finally have to upgrade..... Maybe I should be stashing some fresh source code to move back into old projects to remain backward compatible.... Awesome news on the Android going up to 11. Nigel will be so happy - This one goes to 11! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbVKWCpNFhY But that renders my test device useless as its 2.3.4. And interesting to see how my droid plug-ins on the market and the ones I'm working on get updated and work here after this change.... Appreciate the hard work, I'm all about the changes but just want to prepare so I can keep building.

My guess is that there is a 5% chance that it will be updated for BT1.5. It didn't work with Xcode 4.5, so I expect it won't with Xcode 4.6. BT1.5 was discontinued long ago, and there is not much flexibility in it. No plugin market, to name one.

Hi After the update will the apps run on devices using Android v2.3 (Gingerbread). Just want to know, since many brands are still offering smartphones using Gingerbread.

Great news and thank you so much. A little bump on the question about Gingerbread. It's still at 44% according to Google. http://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html
